Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Feb 06, 2010 7:20 pm Hi. After 21 years we are getting a kitchen...hooray! We have timber floors throughout our home (including the kitchen) with timber panelling up to about 3 feet or so. We had wanted a timber kitchen but have decided it would be timber overload. So now we're going with a New Guinea rosewood benchtop but are at a loss over what colour laminex for the doors/drawers. I had thought white laminex, but it just looks rather cheap (sorry) and I don't want to go with the vinyl wrap or similar as I've heard too many bad stories. That leaves us trying to choose a laminex colour to complement the timber. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks! Re: Kitchen cupboard colours to go with timber benchtop 2Feb 06, 2010 9:04 pm What flooring are you having? And can you post a pic of your benchtop timber if possible? Seeing floor and benchtop colours might make it easier to suggest a cabinet colour. Are you having overhead cabinets? Colour? What about splashback and paint colours? And finally.....are you after a modern, period or classic look? Personally, I think white cabinets look great with timber - but there are a whole range of different whites, plus different finishes to choose from. And not just laminates - there's vinyl wrap or two-pack and probably a billion other materials. Having some difficulty uploading pics at the moment. Timber floor: fairly dark as it in an older house with some nice golden colours. Benchtop: New Guinea rosewood (probably similar colour to the one in first picture with darker doors) Splashback: will decide when we get the cupboard/drawer colours sorted Overhead cupboards: not at this stage but down the track (another 21 years maybe!) Thinking about having glass on the doors. Look: it's an old farm house so I guess it needs to be in keeping with that and all the timber we have : although we do have a gorgeous fire engine red lounge! The guy making the kitchen for us has advised against vinyl wrap and moulded laminate (won't put his name to these products) and chipping of two-pack has steered us toward laminate. Thanks Hi I bought an old cupboard that is in desperate need of some TLC. I was seeking some advice as to the best product to use to give it an oil but also bring it to life a… 0 3435 Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity. 1 15884 |
