Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Feb 01, 2010 5:49 pm Hi Ok, so we all have heard about bad vinyl wrap experiences with doors. Has anyone used this brand of door? I would appreciate your feedback. It has come recommended by a friend who is very happy with his kitchen. I have had a negative image of vinyl, but am impressed by this product. Thanks HH Life's too short too drink bad wine Re: Polytec Thermolaminated Doors 2Feb 01, 2010 7:39 pm I love Polytec but I hate vinyl wrap...possibly one of the least appropriate materials for use in a kitchen...but this is only from a designer/specifier's points of view...that is, I am the person who has to make good when it goes wrong; I'm sure there are plenty of end users out there who think the world of the stuff. As I have said before, every professional cabinet maker I deal with has stopped using vinyl wrap because of the long term pain involved...and they are all still in business. Polytec is as good as it gets but that is only for a given value of "good". Cheers, Earl Re: Polytec Thermolaminated Doors 3Feb 02, 2010 12:52 am We have been using Vinyl Wrap for a while in our kitchens , and have not had too many issues Except when it comes to cut ends , or scribing panels - which can lead to the Vinyl popping . Lately i have been suggesting Polytec's CREATEC range to my clients with favorable success. It is as glossy , if not more than the Vinyl's and seems to be a hard wearing finish. Re: Polytec Thermolaminated Doors 4Feb 02, 2010 8:59 am We are in the process of installing a new kitchen & of all the suppliers we spoke to or received a quote from, they all suggested we stay away from vinyl wrap. I wasn't that keen on it anyway but they made our mind up for us!! Cheers. Re: Polytec Thermolaminated Doors 6Feb 03, 2010 10:47 pm We will be having the Polytec Therom doors. It seemed to be the only available option for a gloss finish. Im sure with appropriate care they will be as good as any other door finish. If not you can replace them if need be. Polytec are the best brand for this type of door if you want them. NO EXPECTATIONS, NO DISAPPOINTMENTS! All I know is we are having Parbury laminate and we can get the colours we want in gloss but no idea of upgrade costs. I realise costs will be relevant to how big a kitchen is but just need some clue to cost. A balanced diet is chocolate in both hands. It seems both companies are linked somehow. Not sure, will have to wait till we do our colour selection. I just know when I checked the samples on line for Wilsonart they have gloss in the Designer White and Madagascar that we want. We are doing white cupboards and Madagascar on the oven tower and back wall of the island bench. Bench tops will be CS. Kaytee A balanced diet is chocolate in both hands. He said that he's seen many kitchens where the doors start to "unwrap" over time, and strongly suggested that we go with Laminex, as the product is hardwearing and will still look good in 15 years. We are going with luxury finishes throughout (stone vanity tops etc etc) and have taken his advice and have switched to Laminate. Don't get me wrong, I love the look of the Polytec products, and am a little disappointed not to be getting that gloss look, however we just don't want to run into trouble down the track. Our cabinet maker used a Parbury product called "Panelart". The colour is "Arctic White". The cupboards are not a shiny as gloss as they have a low-lustre surface and I think that they look fantastic paired with my Cacao Umber and Ebony Macassar benchtops. If you click on my link you can see the pics of our kitchen. To have the cupboards in Panelart was no extra charge for the cupboards etc. for our cabinet maker but as you would probably know, not all cabinet makers charge the same for the same/similar products. Here is the link to Parbury - http://www.parbury.com.au/panelart/panelart.asp Kaytee, I think that the "Designer White" and "Madagascar" will look fantastic. I just love contrasting colours. PCI Done Interested in getting either the Polytec Boston Oak or Palace Peak for kitchen cabinets. Looking at the Boston Oak ones, it appears that the colour varies significantly… 0 9173 we have a standard size and often we have a lot of variety to choose 0 3576 We are looking for sliding doors which are 5 metres tall. There are a few European options. Any manufacturers in Australia or distributors? 0 5041 |
