Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jan 31, 2010 4:45 pm Hi, has anyone with 9' or 2.7m high ceilings installed a canopy rangehood in their kitchen? We are going to purchase a glass canopy rangehood and are wondering how people have gone with extension flues etc. Still trying to work out which one to buy!! Would love to see any pictures of installed rangehoods with 9' ceilings. Also, what did you do with tops of overhead cupboards? Did you build them right to ceiling? Re: 9ft Ceilings and canopy rangehood 2Jan 31, 2010 4:50 pm I've got 3m ceiling and have bought a glass canopy too. I've bought extension flues but nothing is installed yet. Sorry no pics As for overhead cupboards, haven't made a decision on that either Re: 9ft Ceilings and canopy rangehood 5Jan 31, 2010 8:50 pm Planning on bulkhead as well. Still considering the cost though. Anyone else with ideas, pictures please? i have some on my site. when i have had to do a canopy hood i get an extra length of flue made to suit ,works out pretty cheap when you compare with bulkheads/cornicing Re: 9ft Ceilings and canopy rangehood 8Feb 08, 2010 9:52 am SharonC, One possibility is the use of carbon filters on the range hood and run it in re-circulate mode. Advantage: 1. No need for extra long flue extensions which can look untidy in some peoples opinions 2. Saves costs in bulkheads which can also look untidy if too tall 3. Carbon filter removes many fumes and smells Disadvantage: 1. Rangehood is not ducted out to atmosphere 2. Heat is re-circulated back into kitchen area All in all if bulkheads and long extension flues are out of the question, this is the most practical solution in my opinion. I hope this helps you Cheers Roger Thanks mate. Yeah good points! Leaning towards Option 3 to get a bit extra space in the cabinets but not going too crazy high (and expensive).
