Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jan 30, 2010 1:29 pm As the title suggestions, would anyone like to share pictures of the above? I had my heart set on caesarstone benchtops but due to my soil test coming back and biting for alot extra than I planned I had to make a few cut backs - bye bye dream kitchen. My choice is from the standard laminate ranges only (laminex, duropal, wilsonart and I think one other.) I think alot of the designs would look rather nice with the polished finished but I'm just not feeling the regular old laminate. I've scoured many kitchen mags but unless I'm looking at issues from 1985 laminate features very little!! Even the laminex brochure is full of stone benchtops! Nothing like touting your own product - NOT! I know with the right colours and finishes I will find something I will love - unfortunately I lack the vision and creativity to do fabulous! Anyway, would love to see some pictures on what others have chosen. Re: Please show me your laminate benchtopped kitchens :) 2Jan 30, 2010 2:43 pm Most of the newer kitchens have been posted in the "Show us your Kitchen" thread. Have a search in the kitchen section for that thread and you will see some beautiful kitchens. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Please show me your laminate benchtopped kitchens :) 3Jan 30, 2010 3:16 pm There are some very attractive stone-look laminates too. We had a grey granite pattern in our old kitchen and our bathrooms and laundry in this house have benchtops that look like reconstituted stone. Have a look at the Formica range, just for a start: http://www.formica.com.au/colourcollection.aspx This is what we have, in the velour finish: This is a Laminex one: Marble, granite, slate, solid colours, woodgrains.....lots of choices. Re: Please show me your laminate benchtopped kitchens :) 4Jan 30, 2010 3:36 pm Thanks kyton, I am familiar with that thread. Looking at all those spectacular kitchens with their beautiful glossy stone benchtops and glass splashbacks - it is hard to curb my kitchen envy But you are right, can't go past it for the latest in modern colour trends which might be a good place for me to start. Thanks Kek, do you by chance have pictures of your completed kitchen with the benchtop? I did initially pick out something similiar to that laminex sample but thought the velor finish might look a bit boring compared to a gloss finish. I think I really need to see some samples in the flesh to see the finish of them. Having a quick look on laminex - I can quickly determine I 100% don't want a marble or wood look, not sure i'm fussed on a solid colour either. I quite like the "sand" types (and could live with it in velor) and the pebble dependent on the overall finish. I thought this would be fun but it's so hard! Re: Please show me your laminate benchtopped kitchens :) 5Jan 30, 2010 4:38 pm This is our old kitchen - it's rather old-fashioned now, but the benchtop is still nice. It might be a bit hard to imagine in a modern setting though. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Sorry the pic's a bit small.... The kitchen in the place we rented while building also had a stone-look benchtop, very similar to the bathroom laminate we have now. I'll try to track down a photo.... I am just so taken by your laundry benchtop – I love the squareness as opposed to rounded edges – is this what is meant by “pencil edge’? It is amazing the huge effect the shape of the bench alone makes! Just wow. Can you please tell me the colour – it is lovely! Can you please also tell me the colour of the bench in the last kitchen pic? I just love your bathroom bench but I’m not going to enquire any more about it because if I do I might just fall in love with it and need to upgrade! I have just dug out my specs and my bench tops throughout are : 180° postformed laminate edge – had a google and it seems to be the most standard of the lot!! Definitely not loving it as much as the square edge. I wonder a rough cost of changing them all to a more square edge? Couldn’t be too much surely!? Re: Please show me your laminate benchtopped kitchens :) 8Jan 30, 2010 7:08 pm kek what colour green is this? http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i18/kerrynw/19112008530_1_1.jpg It looks devine in your laundry, I love it! Re: Please show me your laminate benchtopped kitchens :) 9Jan 31, 2010 10:17 am netadelle kek what colour green is this? It looks devine in your laundry, I love it! It's not actually green, netadelle....it's a bit of a crappy photo, taken with my phone. The colour is really dark beige, Wattyl "Castilian", although it does have a definite greeny tinge to it; it's not one of those pinky beiges. It's the same colour we used throughout the house. honkey I am just so taken by your laundry benchtop – I love the squareness as opposed to rounded edges – is this what is meant by “pencil edge’? Couldn’t be too much surely!? honkey, I have no idea about costs of the various laminate shapes and forms. We got the square edge with shadowline in bathrooms as standard with our builder. The laundry, we had a choice of edges, but I can't recall what the others were - I just know that ours was "pencil round", which has a flat front but rounded corners. I think the old kitchen bench had a D-shaped edge. This is a better pic of the bathroom benchtops, although still too far away: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The bathroom and laundry are the same: Formica Amaretto Stone. I'm pretty sure it was just in the standard range, but that can vary between builder. I honestly can't tell you the colour of the old kitchen benchtop - I had a sample, but it was one of the many things that got chucked when we moved. There are plenty of similar ones though. Laminex Arezzo Granite is a bit like it: Formica Umbrian Granite has similar colours in it too. Re: Please show me your laminate benchtopped kitchens :) 10Feb 01, 2010 1:25 am I would go and take a look at the Laminex Diamond Gloss range. The showroom displays it with a 8mm postform edge, so it's got a flat edge with a small roundness on the edges. Not as square as squareform, but pretty squarish! Someone else also mentioned you can get this range with an acrylic edge, making it look more square, but that probably comes at a cost. I have the colour Toffee Mineralstone in the diamond gloss range, but my cabinet maker could only source it in a 10mm postform edge, still pretty square to me. Shame that won't go in my kitchen colour scheme, I think it's gorgeous and I'm still having splashback decision dilemmas! What size are those tiles? mek - I love the look of your benchtop and cupboards matching!
