Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jan 28, 2010 7:15 pm The plumber who installed my kitchen sink didnt seal the joins between the stone benchtop and where the sink makes contact with it. I thought this would be a standard practice....do I need to tell him to do it? When I asked him about it he said that silicon would only go mouldy. I have noticed that there is moisture now underneath the cupboards. Re: Sealing a newly installed kitchen sink 4Jan 29, 2010 8:06 am camelia Do you mean Sikaflex? If so, which one? I'd say a marine grade sikaflex in a caulking tube would probably suit, just need to make sure its one of the adhesive polyurethane types, a quick trip down to bunnings (or equivalent) in the adhesives section would see you right. Best yet its available in a number of colors so you should be able to pick one that doesnt stand out like the proverbial. I've used it as an adhesive for bonding fibreglass parts on my sea kayak with great sucess so i think it would withstand sealing a sink. I think I can do this myself, easier than getting him back Re: Sealing a newly installed kitchen sink 8Jan 29, 2010 2:57 pm TBH not sure, a quick google around the place on kitchen sink installation tends to only mention putting a bead of adhesive around the inner edge to seal it to the benchtop. Otherwise is the sink branded at all? Might be worth chasing up the manufacturer for an install guide, enquiring on the basis that your plumber left out the strip and whether it is or is not required based on the manufacturer install requirements and hence wether you would need to get said plumber to come back and fix it.
