Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jan 19, 2010 9:11 pm Hi All, Thanks for the wonderful reading. I'm designing and managing the renovation of my kitchen for a 2 bedroom apartment in inner city Sydney. I have no time to do it myself so I've been receiving quotes from joiners and cabinet makers, however my budget just isn't going to stretch this far. The quotes I've received are: $ 8 750.00 for Polyurethane cabinets $ 1 150.00 for delivery and installation $ 2 440.00 for Bench Top 40 mm Granite/Caesar $ 3 350.00 for Glass Splash My question is: what should I sacrifice to keep the spending down? Thanks in advance!!! Re: Kitchen for a small apartment 2Jan 20, 2010 12:22 pm I guess you have to look at your apartment and what the purpose of it is. Why are you renovating - are you going to be living there? Is it going to be a rental? Are you planning on selling? What does the market demand for your type of property? And most importantly - what can you afford? I recently renovated my kitchen in a villa in Perth. As much as I really wanted a glass splashback and stone benchtops, I couldn't justify spending the extra $3,000. Instead I have a laminate benchtop and a tiled splashback (using glass mosaic tiles) - I still think it looks pretty good. The splashback only set me back $600 for the tiles and installation. http://vintagemodernhome.blogspot.com/2 ... hback.html If you haven't already - don't forget you also have to take into account the costs of your appliances, kitchen sink and the installation of the same etc. I've just started writing a blog Re: Kitchen for a small apartment 4Jan 21, 2010 3:32 pm Thanks so much for your thoughts. VintageModern - I love your splashback - it looks great! I still love glass though and am thinking that I might have the splashback behind the cooktop only to save $$. The place is somewhere that I envisage living for a few good years (maybe 5 or 6) and then keeping as an investment. I'm aware that of wanting materials that will not require constant replacement or be easily damaged. Hi all, We are looking to build a new two storey house in western Sydney.
