Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jul 31, 2007 4:27 pm Hi there
Hoping someone can help me! In my kitchen I am having a light chocolate stone benchtop and off white cupboards (Laminex Moleskin) with some feature laminate in a darker laminate (overhead cupboards) The builder has just asked what colour I want my kickplate/kickboards to be? Either the Laminex Moleskin or I can upgrade to a brushed stainless steel kickplate for $500 What are people's thoughts? Will stainless steel look alot better? Flooring in the area will be timber flooring (Kempas) Ta Nat Re: Brushed Stainless Steel Kickplate? 2Jul 31, 2007 5:17 pm Yes brushed stainless steal will look much better. But for an extra $500 I have a better idea.
Brushed Alluminium looks almost the same and doesnt cost any more than the moleskin laminate. We use it all the time in kitchens. Re: Brushed Stainless Steel Kickplate? 3Jul 31, 2007 5:33 pm Yep i agree ... go the stainless steel or brushed stainless on your kickplate.
We have them (didn't even know they existed until we had to choose a colour!!!) and we love them. Re: Brushed Stainless Steel Kickplate? 4Jul 31, 2007 6:57 pm As an added bonus they show scratches less than Moleskin wood. Re: Brushed Stainless Steel Kickplate? 5Jul 31, 2007 7:12 pm i like the sound of the brushed aluminium kickboards. we are also having timber floors (oak) and I think the aluminium look will tie in really nicely with this and the aluminium (silver) windows Re: Brushed Stainless Steel Kickplate? 7Aug 01, 2007 4:37 pm It might also be worth considering the laminex colour - zincworks (i thinks thats its name) it looks like ss Re: Brushed Stainless Steel Kickplate? 8Aug 01, 2007 5:46 pm mudtrilogy It might also be worth considering the laminex colour - zincworks (i thinks thats its name) it looks like ss You have to be really carfull with the laminex, formica and wilsonart metal look laminates. They are very very expensive. For a normal kitchen brushed alluminium laminate would cost approximatly $90. The same kitchen in any of the other steal looks can cost over $400 Re: Brushed Stainless Steel Kickplate? 9Aug 01, 2007 6:20 pm Thanks guys
Took all your advice on board and have gone for the brushed stainless steel - had a look at Amber & Adrian's kitchen photo's & cutting edge cabinet's website and it is defintely worth the extra money - looks fantastic! Thanks Again Nat Re: Brushed Stainless Steel Kickplate? 10Aug 30, 2007 1:58 pm what is the price diffrence between the Formica Brushed Pewter and the Formica Brushed Aluminuim. I was leaning towards the Pewder but if this costs a lot more I will get the Alumuinuin.
I am trying to replicate a stainless steel look on the kickplate. Any other ideas would be great Re: Brushed Stainless Steel Kickplate? 11Aug 30, 2007 2:10 pm I have reverted to username - mattwalker Carlisle Homes - Grande 43 My building experience is here: http://www.ourgrandeplan.blogspot.com Re: Brushed Stainless Steel Kickplate? 13Aug 30, 2007 2:31 pm I have reverted to username - mattwalker Carlisle Homes - Grande 43 My building experience is here: http://www.ourgrandeplan.blogspot.com Re: Brushed Stainless Steel Kickplate? 14Sep 07, 2007 12:40 pm cuttingedgecabinets Yes brushed stainless steal will look much better. CuttingEdge is that brushed aluminium laminate or actual aluminium? And whichever it is does anyone know where I can get it in Brisbane? Re: Brushed Stainless Steel Kickplate? 16Sep 07, 2007 1:01 pm great thanks just wanted to clarify that.
can anyone recommend a good place to get it around brisbane, is it just the laminex range and I can get it from their factory outlet at Murrarie? and how do you apply it? Is it just liquid nailed in place? sorry for the novice questions............ Re: Brushed Stainless Steel Kickplate? 17Sep 07, 2007 3:50 pm Yes the laminex range has a number of different types of metal laminates. They are more expensive than how I buy it. I purchase it from a supplier in a 150mm wide roll perfect for kickboards.
Liquid nails is without doubt the wrong way of fixing it. The laminate is only 0.7mm thick so if there is a lump of glue behind it shows up like Fred Nile at the mardi gras. You should use a contact adheasive that is applied to both surfaces allowed to almost dry and then placed together. Re: Brushed Stainless Steel Kickplate? 19Sep 13, 2007 11:59 am here is a link to a product similar to the roll described earlier
