Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jan 16, 2010 6:13 pm I have been admiring your beautiful kitchens and borrowing ideas for mine so thanks to all for posting! I am in the process of finalising my plans and am having a hard time choosing the right size for my fridge space. All I know is that I want a side by side or 3 door fridge but that’s it no brand or size yet… How much room should I allow for the fridge space? Thanks Nelle Re: How much room for the fridge space? 2Jan 16, 2010 8:31 pm about a metre wide is suffiecent as most side by sides are between 800 and 900mm... and don't forget about the height if you are having overhead cupboards.. I remember someone on here made their cupboards too low... (yep that was me..) Re: How much room for the fridge space? 3Jan 17, 2010 2:46 pm I've been studying the width of side-by-side fridges, and most are about 905mm wide (plus you'll need at least 40mm extra to allow for skirting, the fridge or surrounding walls not being perfectly vertical, electric cable and manouevering in & out). The only one I found bigger than that is Westinghouse (and I think Electrolux), which is 1000mm wide, which is the one I wanted, anyhow. Perhaps I should stick to the 905mm wide units as if I ever go to sell it the oversized Westinghouse may be difficult to find a new owner for. I love the water and ice maker, as do my guests. The first side-by-side I bought had to be a smaller one due to the space. Unfortunately most brands simply make the freezer space even narrower when they make a smaller side-by-side. This can make it difficult to get a frozen pizza in the freezer. Re: How much room for the fridge space? 4Jan 19, 2010 5:20 pm Thanks for the replies I have changed the size about 6 times already... I don't think the drafters are too happy with me! Thanks for the tip about the height and as for the depth I couldn't get it made deeper so I extended the wall on one side. It wont be flush with the bench but at least it will be wrapped on the outer by the wall... I hope it looks ok! Love the ice and water too! I have reduced the width to 970mm to create more bench space. I saw a nice 3 door fridge that is 900mm wide would 970mm be wide enough to fit this fridge or should I go back to 1000mm??? I was all excited about having ice and water and now I have to wait.. just another stupid fridge at the moment... I had a similar issue with my fridge not too long ago. It wasn't the same model, but the symptoms were pretty much the same: the compressor would start and then stop… 3 7552 You can really use anything you want the main consideration would be how it looks once painted/finished - or the look you want.
