Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jan 07, 2010 10:43 am Hi everyone, I've had a search through previous posts and a good size between the two benches (eg I've got a U-shape kitchen) is 1000-1200mm for a small kitchen. (I have a small house, 2 bedroom inner city. It's never really going to be a "family house".) My current design has 1100mm, i've marked it out with some tape on the floor and it seems ok. Interested to know if anyone has gone 1000mm. Are there any thoughts or pictures? Thanks Re: Anyone had a kitchen with 1000mm between bench tops 4Jan 07, 2010 1:57 pm 1200 mm here - does the job. mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: Anyone had a kitchen with 1000mm between bench tops 5Jan 07, 2010 6:50 pm I totally * earlier mine is 1240. I honestly thought it was less because I can remember the kitchen guys debating on how much room to leave and they decided on 1m but they obviously changed their mind.....yeah but no but yeah but Re: Anyone had a kitchen with 1000mm between bench tops 6Jan 10, 2010 7:53 am This was discussed on the forum a couple of years ago when I was doing my kitchen and I think it was said 1000mm was not really enough - but I guess you have no other option? It was said 1200mm would be OK and 1500mm perfect. Re: Anyone had a kitchen with 1000mm between bench tops 7Jan 10, 2010 8:06 am I think 1200 mm is best. 1500 mm would have too much travel between benches. If you're squeezed for space 1000 mm is still OK. Our curent unit has a u-shaped bench with 1125 mm spacing, which is nice. I would imagine 1000 mm would also work, but again 1200 would be best. My current build has 1200 mm spacing (for an island) specified. I think I will not go the 1000mm space, ideal world 1200, but I think I will be happy with 1100 Re: Anyone had a kitchen with 1000mm between bench tops 12Feb 27, 2010 7:37 am Bromaco SUH, do you mind if i ask what colours you have used in your kitchen??? We have this gap in our current kitchen and find this to be practical, not a lot of travel between the two benches. A friend of mine has a galley kitchen too and their gap is 1000mm. For walking in between is fine, although when they open their underbench oven, it becomes a bit of a squeeze if you're a bigger/taller person bending down. The lounge on the opposite side is sooo big that we could have cut into it a bit more and opened up the kitchen Re: Anyone had a kitchen with 1000mm between bench tops 17Jun 16, 2010 8:30 pm Ours are 1050mm. It is a square kitchen with a centre island bench. We have a family and I cook a lot. The distance is great. If benchtops are too far apart it is much further travelling from fridge to stovetop to oven. A galley kitchen might need more though Hi - thanks for your reply.
