Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jan 03, 2010 2:39 pm I'm thinking of using copper metallic mosaic tiles for my entire kitchen splashback. I have Alabaster cupboards (off white) with Caesarstone (Nimbus) for tops. I'm needing something for impact and am a bit over glass.... I need something a bit different. I have attached a photo of metallic tiles that I saw in a display home. Does anyone have any other photos or comments regarding using these tiles. img]http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/ae244/kel2508/105454923al1230528625.jpg[/img] Re: Has anyone used Metallic Tiles for entire splashback? 2Jan 03, 2010 5:17 pm Hi Kelly, ooh I like those tiles! We used metallic mosaics in blue/purple and are very happy with the results. Pics are towards the bottom of the page viewtopic.php?f=31&t=23185&start=140. We only went 600mm high with the splashback because I intend to get overheads at some stage, but I love how the one in your picture goes all the way up. Kind of wishing now we had done that behind the rangehood. We couldn't afford glass and I'm kinda glad, cos I think this is much more interesting and suits our house better. Not to mention it was much more affordable! Re: Has anyone used Metallic Tiles for entire splashback? 3Jan 03, 2010 5:52 pm Hello! We're having mosaic metal-effect tiles in our kitchen, just up to the 600mm mark though. They're a funny thing. . . they're made from some kind of plastic, but they have a layer of metal on the face. The guy at the tile warehouse said that a mix of liquid metal and plastic is poured into the mould, the metal sinks to the bottom of the mosaic tile as it's more dense than the plastic. This layer is then polished to create the face of the mosaic. They look pretty nice in the packet, hopefully they look ok on the walls! We picked them up for $9.95 30 x 30cm sheet, bargain! Re: Has anyone used Metallic Tiles for entire splashback? 4Jan 03, 2010 6:29 pm I had been considering large metallic tiles for our splashback but couldn't find something I really really wanted, so ended up splurging on teh metallic brown glass splashback. but here is a thread I started with some good links and pics in of metallic tiles: viewtopic.php?f=16&t=25192&p=338406&hilit=metallic+splashback+tiles#p338406 viewtopic.php?f=16&t=22787&p=337319&hilit=metallic+splashback+tiles#p337319 Happy hunting! Has the grout discoloured at all? They look great, I'm undecided about how to do our splashback, I was hoping to do something a bit different as we will probably end up with white cupboards and benches. Recently moved to a 60's home in need of some improvement! http://s797.photobucket.com/user/leenii ... ch%20House Old house: http://s797.photobucket.com/albums/yy25 ... loo/House/ Re: Has anyone used Metallic Tiles for entire splashback? 6Jan 04, 2010 4:45 pm OH yeah! That's the thing I'm worried about. . . getting spaghetti bolognese in the grout. . . will the stain ever come out? Suppose we could put that grout seal on, especially around the back of the stove. Hi leni, no the grout hasn't discoloured, but it was only installed two months ago. Cleaning so far has been easy cos I do it regularly. But I will definately be sealing the grout. It's on my to-do list, right after I finished painting the white grout ( ) on our bathroom floor to grey. Slightly off topic, but I can highly recommend Aquamix Grout Colourant if anyone wants to change the colour of their grout. It's also good for old grout that is discoloured. Really easy to do. (but easier still would be to check that they are going to match the grout to your grey floor tiles, and not just assume!).
