Browse Forums Kitchen Corner Re: Need help with this corner cupboard..... 24Jan 01, 2010 9:38 am I don't want to be the giver of bad news but I will be very surprised if any of these corner units will fit given the small door width. The smallest Hafele one is the Magic Corner 1 and this requires a minimum width of 405. I have 2 of these units and my doors are 500 wide. When I was looking at these I did not see any smaller ones by Hettich. Perhaps Ikea may have something. As an aside, I was warned by one kitchen company that they do not like installing these units as there are problems when any kind of weight is put on them. I ignored this and I am very upset to say that this is true. We have light plastic picnicware on one and the door is no longer soft closing. In fact, the weight has pulled the door so that it rubs on the edge of the cupboard carcass. I would not spend the money on them again. Re: Need help with this corner cupboard..... 25Jan 01, 2010 9:48 am Ok well that's interesting advice NF thank you. I know the kitchen mob offered me a Lazy Susan type swing thing and it was near enough to $800, so ridiculous. I guess I will get some exercise by bending and reaching into the cupboards corners so I can look at it that way I suppose? I will store the ''not frequently'' used things in there I think. www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Need help with this corner cupboard..... 26Jan 01, 2010 9:56 am I was posting a reply that I seen Neverfinished had one in the "show me your kitchen" thread and it would be good to know how these systems actually worked in practice before investing in them. Neverfinished your ears must have been burning Could there be a reason they do this in the first place, because it is an L-shaped granite benchtop do you need the extra support to stop movement? If you make an opening in the back of the unit could this compromise the support to the bench? Just wondering I know nothing about granite benchtops and what is required to support them. I had a cupboard like this in my old kitchen where the punchbowl and other items I never used lived. Re: Need help with this corner cupboard..... 27Jan 01, 2010 8:46 pm oooh, oooh!! Having a stone bench does not affect it at all. An opening at the back of the unit is also a different construction - you cant simply "add one" and have it done properly. Don't ask!? Re: Need help with this corner cupboard..... 31Jan 02, 2010 1:01 pm Just called the Blum company here in Adelaide she said they range from $200 - $400 a draw Re: Need help with this corner cupboard..... 33Jan 03, 2010 11:30 am Wow...love the blum corner space drawers!!! Very very very nice! I think I can see us re-doing that kitchen island in a few years. This time I'd like to design it properly and have a 40mm QQ with waterfall. I was hoping that there would be a minimum regulated standard opening for a cupboard that size so that I could get the builder to change it for me. Anyone have access to kitchen regulations? Re: Need help with this corner cupboard..... 34Jan 08, 2010 9:13 am I have a very small u shaped kitchen with two corners. One abuts the dishwasher and I have a pull out cupboard called a Waricorner made by Lincoln Sentry. The cupboard opening is 50cm and I think this is standard for this type of unit. I've had it now for over 2 years and there haven't been any problems, it's as perfect today as it was when it was first installed. I don't have soft closing cupboards and I don't know if that makes a difference. I store saucepans, frying pans and mixing bowls in it. I can't store very much in it but everything is very accessible. I wanted another pull out unit on the other side but it's opening is only 30cm, the kitchen company did make enquiries for me but they couldn't find any unit that would fit, I have a bi-fold door for this cupboard and it works well. They originally wanted to make that a dead corner and not have any access at all but given the smallness of the kitchen I wasn't prepared to let any storage area go to waste. I haven't read or seen any building standards for kitchens but my guess is that they are about safety in relation to ovens and hotplates and not about cupboard access. I think you're best bet is to get a cabinet maker out and see about a door opening on the other side or a bi-fold door, both of which will require alterations to the existing cupboard carcases and are unlikely to be cheap solutions. The cheap solution would be to ignore it and treat the space as dead space. Re: Need help with this corner cupboard..... 35Feb 16, 2010 3:42 pm Ok ive got a similar problem. I just went and saw my builder and asked what i can do to change it. They have given me these options 1) no handle on the far cupboard so i manually open it. - cab maker suggested Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ 2) No handles on the closest cupboard so i manually open it - my suggestion Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ 3) Push door (which means I cant get soft closers) and is $$$ - Builder suggestion They didnt give me the option on L shaped (which i find is the best) or having the join inbetween so they open back on eachother (which means I cant get in the back that well) Should I push them for it or just make do with what they can offer me and which one will it look good? I have a 900 x 1000 L shaped corner with a fixed shelf that was recessed about 200 so its really easy to get to the back corner. I store my large food processor in the bottom and nothing is hard to reach. They just had to add extra support to the top of the cupboard to support the stone. I know, I used to have two of those in my original kitchen. Re: Need help with this corner cupboard..... 39Feb 16, 2010 8:58 pm I know its silly isnt it.
