I didn't want a garbage bin in the kitchen at all but that's just me. www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Where do you put your rubbish bin? 42Dec 12, 2010 2:53 pm I don't like the idea of rubbish in my kitchen either, but we have 4 bins; 1 for chooks, 1 for worms, 1 for recycling and then what ever is left. So we need a big processing plant in the kitchen! They are all emptied every day so smell is not an issue but space is. Hence the need for a lazy susan type system. Re: Where do you put your rubbish bin? 43Dec 12, 2010 5:36 pm shell83 If only I had of thought about this before my kitchen was built!!! We ended up getting a slide out bin for the cupboard anyway, but a built-in one would have been much nicer! When we moved in we originally had a bin in the pantry but it was too much of a PITA to walk into the pantry to throw something out. Also, it made the pantry smell The one we got fitted perfectly into the top shelf of the cupboard, just needed a couple of screws to hold it in place. When it slides back in its fully enclosed so it doesn't stink out the rest of the cupboard (its not a sectioned of cupboard unfortunately ). We got it from Bunnings, the brand is Kimberely (http://www.kimprod.com.au/waste.htm) and they were very reasonably priced compared to a few others we looked at. Not a bad solution as an after-thought, I love being able to slide my scraps off the bench straight into the cupboard below! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Ours is similar. We have ours in the cupboard under the sink. When we open the cupboard door the bin opens, and when we shut it the bin lid shuts. Its really good as we don't have to touch the bin (only when we empty it ) We got ours from bunnings. Its similar to the picture below but ours is white. Re-reading this thread I'm amazed how many people 'forgot' about the bin when designing thier kitchen - IMHO it is one of the most important 'appliances' of the kitchen and requires as much thought as the stove or sink...it certainly did in mine I was sick and tired of having rubbish and recycling stacked up in piles against the wall!! I still LOVE our bins. Because the bins are right at the top of the drawer, it reduces mess - no dribbles down the inside door, and requires no bending over. You can wipe the bench straight into the bin. Becuase it is a drawer, there is only one action to open and close. Because it has an inbuilt lid, it doesn't smell. Beccause it is soft close, it doesn't bang. the void below is used for storing dustpan and bin liners. We have two bins - one for rubbish and one for recycling, even though we have one-bin recycling/waste in our council, they could go together. however we find the size just right for emptying every day to every other day. Anyone had one of these done recently? Not sure if they are straight forward and easy… 0 783 Thanks mate. Yeah good points! Leaning towards Option 3 to get a bit extra space in the cabinets but not going too crazy high (and expensive). Would require a mini… 13 40030 |
