Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Dec 14, 2009 11:31 pm Hi All, We are planning to order a flatpack through Kitset and they have assisted us with coming up with a design for our kitchen apartment renovation (extremely helpful so far). Anyway, I would appreciate any feedback for what we are planning. Some things to note: - my partner and I don't want the microwave on the bench (pet hate) - we realise the microwave may be a little difficult to use given its position and left hand opening - the 400mm cupboard next to the sink will be a door mounted Kimberly bin - one corner cupboard needs to be 900x900mm as we have a lazy susan system to be installed - plumbing drains out through the wall (see blue dot in plan) - water intake through concrete floor (see other blue dot in plan) Some things that concern me: - the depths of the current microwave unit is 400mm - it doesn't appear many microwaves will fit this cavity. 450mm would be better? - there will only be 400mm between the top of the bench to the bottom of the microwave cabinet (1300mm from floor). Will this space be usable? Any feedback appreciated. Thanks! Our first kitchen had no microwave provision and the only place it could go was in a corner that didn't work with the direction of the door opening. I suffered for 15 years until we renovated. Can you move it to the opposite corner, down near the cooktop? By the way, your fridge also opens the wrong way, but that doesn't seem to bother most people. I specifically ordered a left-hand opening fridge when we bought ours a few years back, because otherwise you'd have to do a little dance every time you wanted to open it. (Step OUT of the kitchen, open the fridge, extract item, close fridge, step back INTO the kitchen, swing your partner round and round....) As for the rest of the design, I'd have to have a pantry.... Thanks! why dont you put it on a 45 degree in the corner ,a 700 x 700 x 320 deep cabinet will give you an 528 x 430 deep space to put the micro in Re: Kitchen design feedback please 4Dec 15, 2009 12:08 pm I agree that microwave is going to cause problems and 400mm is not deep enough anyway - the "designer" is clearly concerned enough already about how that cabinet will be visually disturbing... How about a wall oven/microwave tower next to the fridge and the cooktop on the next section of benchtop around - you only lose 632mm of benchtop and you will gain all that space currently underneath the microwave (which will be incredibly annoying to use where it is). http://i288.photobucket.com/albums/ll178/Struming/th_Jerry141209Plan1.jpg Cheers, Earl Re: Kitchen design feedback please 5Dec 15, 2009 2:28 pm Maybe you could move the oven to the other wall, then put the microwave under the bench. I wouldnt have the oven right next to the fridge. Are you happy to stay with that size fridge? We have a single door at the moment but left a larger hole for a side by side for later on. Re: Kitchen design feedback please 6Dec 15, 2009 3:50 pm Thanks for the feedback so far, very help. Just to respond to a few of your questions - kek By the way, your fridge also opens the wrong way.... This is how it is now and yes it is a little annoying but I think we can live with that. kek As for the rest of the design, I'd have to have a pantry.... Would love to have one, not sure where it could go? We are trying to keep as much bench space that we can. Currently we have a galley kitchen and find that there is nowhere near enough bench space. arms why dont you put it on a 45 degree in the corner ,a 700 x 700 x 320 deep cabinet will give you an 528 x 430 deep space to put the micro in I like this idea Tom. Will put it into sketchup and see how it looks. Thanks. I like the idea but we would like to keep some continuous bench space as work areas. Where you have the 4 equal draws will be the sink and left hand dish drainer. Mango Are you happy to stay with that size fridge? Yes we are. This is currently an investment property that we live in.
