Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Dec 11, 2009 5:34 pm Hi, Just after a bit of advise regarding installing a kit kitchen. I have a large window in my kitchen that only stands 870mm from the floor. The total of the kit kitchen height including bench top will be 900mm in height. Is it possible to reduce the adjustable feet on the bottom of the base cabinets and trim down the kick boards (150mm) to the height that I need? Or will this cause issues with the rest of the kit kitchen? If anyone has any advise or suggestions regarding my problem that would be wonderful Re: Kit kitchen Heights question???? 2Dec 11, 2009 6:16 pm 900mm is already low by todays standards - I think you would regret going any lower, I can't imagine the back pain leaning over a bench that low. The norm these days is 950mm with some even going for 1000mm (including myself) Re: Kit kitchen Heights question???? 3Dec 11, 2009 6:28 pm Our original kitchen has a height of only 850mm off the ground, so as you can imagine Im already used to having low benchs. The thing is our place is a old besser block house, so we have concrete walls inside and out so raising the window would be very expensive and hard to do. That is why I am trying to find out if I can lower the kit kitchens height. Re: Kit kitchen Heights question???? 4Dec 11, 2009 7:19 pm Are you buying a flat pack? I would think you could make the kick board base smaller if thats what it sits on but if you have legs then i dont thinb so. Maybe you could have a cabinet maker make the bench two heights so its lower under the window and higher for the main area, so u cvan keep the existing window Re: Kit kitchen Heights question???? 5Dec 11, 2009 8:07 pm Thanks for the reply!!! Yeah Im looking at buying a flat pack. They come with adjustable legs, so I usume I should be able to cut down the kick boards and make them lower. I just wanted to know if that would cause any problems with anything. Re: Kit kitchen Heights question???? 6Dec 12, 2009 8:20 am jemotas Thanks for the reply!!! Yeah Im looking at buying a flat pack. I just wanted to know if that would cause any problems with anything. most of the adjustable legs will go down to 110mm so thats no problem ,what concerns me is the finished height (870mm) this is incredibly low by todays standards.may i suggest that you buy a deeper benchtop for the window section and crank the legs up then run the top into the window as a sill , Re: Kit kitchen Heights question???? 7Dec 18, 2009 2:53 pm Kitchen bench height depends on user's height. I am short so love my island bench height at 860mm. Other benches in my kitchen are 890 mm high to allow for dishwasher under. When you stand with your arms by your side and bent at the elbows as if at a keyboard; this indicates the best height of the bench for the user. Janet (Pasquale) arms jemotas Thanks for the reply!!! Janet (Pasquale) and you are quite right in you assumption ,but from a resale view(which must be considered) 860mm will knock about 50 percent of purchasers out of the race , Re: Kit kitchen Heights question???? 9Dec 18, 2009 3:58 pm [quote="pasquale"]Kitchen bench height depends on user's height.
