It seems Kitchen Connection has a bit of bad reputation. I've seen other people talking about bad experience with them. I think I might try to get some quotes from cabinets makers. Kek that was a good price you got for the kitchen. We wanted to get timber kitchen too but they are too expensive, well, from the price we were told by kitchen connection. How do you find a good cabinets maker? Do you just ring them up from yellow page? How do you know whether they can do a good job? And do they design for you? I was thinking about getting the big company to do a design for our kitchen and then get the cabinets makers to follow the layout. But my husband says this is really bad as we should not use their service if we are not goanna going with them. Is this really bad? Has anyone done this before? Timber is more expensive, but there are some lovely laminates available. We just visited a lot of kitchen showrooms and settled on one that was local, not too big and had been around for a long time. Service was a factor too - they were quick to come out and quote and every time I visited the showroom, they were happy to answer my millions of questions without being pushy. Ask everyone you know who's ever done a kitchen reno - people at work, friends of friends - and see who they used and if they were satisfied with the result. They ought to be able to design a new kitchen for you, but they usually won't give you a copy of the design unless you've signed a contract and paid a deposit. Re: New comer, need all your valuable advices!! 11Dec 16, 2009 8:12 pm Last year my mum got new cupboards and benchtops done, got some new pot drawers all new appliances for around $8,000. This was done by a local kitchen company. However, she did keep the structure exactly the same, just changed the 'look' of it. This wasn't in Sydney though (in VIC), so might not be comparable. Re: New comer, need all your valuable advices!! 12Dec 16, 2009 9:47 pm kek Get some quotes from cabinet makers/kitchen companies and see how they come out. If you give them a budget, they can probably work within it - they'll at least be able to tell you if you're being realistic or not. If all the quotes are way too much, you can always revert to plan B - flat pack DIY. This was about 8 years ago, but we had a kitchen company do a reno for $8000, not including appliances and tiling. Tas oak doors and drawer fronts, very good quality carcasses and hardware, plumbing and electrical plus extras like built-in bin and appliance cupboard. And they ripped out and disposed of the old kitchen too. You can save by using laminate, demolishing the old kitchen yourselves and designing the new one so that plumbing and electrics don't have to be moved. Also keeping the appliances if they're in working order. I don't know if it's possible for $10,000, but you can only ask. We were in exactly the same position ourselves 3 months ago. In our experience its true, the flat pak option comes in standard sizes, and the 'fit' isn't exactly close, gaps, gaps, gaps. If you want a little quality, the flat pak is not the way to go. On the other hand, if its a quick reno and sell project, or quick fix for a rental property in a 'cheap' area, then there is no need to spend the money on quality. Some of the larger kitchens companies we looked at, including your K*******ers had some good ideas but the $$$ were certainly there. We found our local cabinet maker both very experienced (15 years) and alot cheaper than the majors. In the end, we got a slightly better kitchen than we were quoted by the "big" companies, a lot better quality and cheaper than they quoted. Most of the costs is in the materials and what you want. Laminate benchtops are cheap and nasty, caesarstone is a little more, quartz a bit more again, and so one. Same with the cupboard doors, fittings (handles, drawer runners, hinges) then appliances. In the end you have to decide on what quality you want , and 'wow' factor of finishes, then set your budget and go for it. Obviously, you're NOT going to get a 100 square meter Chef Ramsay kitchen for $1 !! If your in Sydney, there is a link to pics of our finished kitchen in my signature, with the details of the cabinet maker. It was definitely worth saving hard for. We were so pleased with our cabinet makers work, that we are using them to continue our bathroom renovations too, in the same colour theme Happy 2010 To Everyone !! Still crazy about my new kitchen, link removed by my request The bathroom is next on the list, coming soon !!! I am so excited about getting my kitchen done now! I love the idea of how you put the wine rack there, thinking maybe we could do something like that too. do you mind me asking how much did this cost you including the applicants? A question. Im in Queensland and building a new home. We managed to reach practical completion 6 weeks ago but we haven't heard any date for handover yet. Who should we… 0 5813 This is one of the reasons I decided to go overseas for my double glazed windows. As the builder indicated, he's worked on many upmarket builds, these were the most well… 13 19255 Ask yourself if the insurance company will be aware of the Reno. 4 7382 |
