Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Nov 26, 2009 7:23 am Our 2yr house renovation is almost finished - in fact in recent weeks the progress has sped up. So much so we could move back in before christmas... The only hurdle is a new kitchen - nothing really fancy - its a galley kitchen - 3 meters long. Sure I want a couple of thing slike an internal bin holder and the doors and drawers being the soft closing type. Thats as hard as it gets. But I always knew it took a few weeks to get a kitchen - but amazed to learn everyone is quoting 6+ weeks. Now that we are close to xmas, they are all saying earliest would be mid Feb - as everything shuts down up to, over and after christmas. (where can I get a job like that). Still do not understand why there is a huge delay - the carcasses are all standard sizes / doors etc... Bunninges / Ikea - sell off the shelf kits - but not really suitable (quality - and I want a 3m top with no joins thanks!) Plus they dont have the good closing mechanisms etc. Any ideas of compainies not so busy in Melbourne North that can do vinyal wrap white gloss / cessar stone tops... Its not hard ! Otherwise I might just go and buy a cheap kitchen off ebay to allow us to move in before christmas and replace it in February... Just looking for any other ideas / contacts. Thanks Keith Re: Need Kitchen quickly 2Nov 26, 2009 8:08 am We recently had a kitchen installed and were surprised by how long it took. We weren't aware the process was the cabinets get built then installed. Then they come and do the measure for the caesar stone which then takes at least a week (they also took our sink so that they could get the hole in the caesar stone just right). Then after that they come and measured for the glass splash back which takes 1 to 2 weeks to be made and installed. You may want to check that when they say 6 weeks whether than is for just the cabinets or if it is for everything finished. Re: Need Kitchen quickly 3Nov 26, 2009 8:14 am Everything goes crazy at Christmas, you won't even get furniture by Christmas day now, the factories have a shut off date, everyone if flat chat and they probably close for a few weeks after as well. I'm not in Melbourne so can't help, but even in Newy we wouldn't get a kitchen made in the 4 weeks leading up to Chrissy. Good luck. Re: Need Kitchen quickly 4Nov 26, 2009 9:53 am The quickest way for you is to buy quality pre fabricated cabinets off the shelf now. Yes you may have to wait for the doors till after christmas but if you have the cabinets installed already you can organise the stone almost straight away. Try online companies that will deliver across australia If you need a kitchen drawn up, post it on this thread - gotta give me a couple of days though:) viewtopic.php?f=16&t=26892 Nuwave oven seen on tv 5Nov 26, 2009 9:30 pm Previously many would say that cooking through ovens are harmful, but hat is not the case today. new wave oven remains unique in its feature from the other conduction and convection ovens, yes it's an infrared oven. Doctor's are asking patients to take food from those infrared ovens since the food cooked are healthy, it has its own added features like patented locking, automatic cooking, reliability, flexibility etc. Check out its features here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spam_%28electronic%29 and remain healthy, stay safe, cheers
Re: Need Kitchen quickly 6Nov 26, 2009 9:52 pm Conduction ovens? Oh yes hat is definitely the case - just ask your Doctor's. I use mine to cook my SPAM. ZOMFG. Re: Need Kitchen quickly 8Nov 27, 2009 8:30 am My husband has had a few people ring in the last week or so and ask for kitchens before Christmas - You need to understand that it's not just as simple as putting your order in and starting the job the next day. If the cabinet maker has a good reputation and is busy, then there's a production line and you will be placed in that line until previous jobs are completed. Not only that, but suppliers will be closing soon and have a backlog or of orders to produce before then and there's a cut off date as to when they can hopefully complete orders to be delivered before Christmas, as this in itself take a few weeks. And once they're closed, you have no choice but to wait til they reopen to get further deliveries (and its not a matter of putting in as many orders as you can either, because this guarantees nothing unfortunately). Its not about being "hard", its about timing. I would be a little worried if you found someone who said they had no work and would take it on, as upsetting as it may be to hear And dstann is right, you will need to organise your other tradies (electrician, plumber, splashback etc) for after the kitchen is installed, so your time frame is quite stretched..
