Was hoping that someone may be able to help me decide where to put the feature laminate in my new kitchen. The bench top will be Essa stone sable luxe (chocolate): Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Main cupboard colour will be Laminex Moleskin (an off white): Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ And the feature laminate colour will be Laminex Fossil: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ My dilema is where to put the fossil??!!! Here is the plan of our kitchen: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The front end of the kitchen is pretty self explanatory - mainly cupboards with a bank of pot drawers on the left hand side and a bank of normal drawers on the far right side. There is also a dishwasher recess under the sink The rear of the kitchen is a bit more complicated! Here is a picture: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Where it says "tiling by owner" we will be putting a glass splashbach - colour yet to be decided! I am keen to have a nice light kitchen so most of the cupboards will be the off-white, however I wanted to add a bit of the fossil for a bit of contrast and it ties in nicely with the benchtop. My intial thought was perhaps just to do the bank of normal drawers on the right hand side of the front of the kitchen and perhaps the pot drawer under the oven at the rear of the kitchen? But is that too boring and perhaps a bit non-flowing as the colours are strong contrasts. So then I was thinking perhaps doing the fossil just to the rear of the kitchen (the cupboards of the fridge, the whole microwave recess, appliance and pot drawer section and the overheads but not the cupboards or drawer under the hot plate?? I am sooooooo confused!!!!!!! Any input would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks Nat Re: Where should I put the feature laminate in my new kitchen? 2Jul 12, 2007 9:59 am It really is such a hard decision - and why we went with all the one colour for laminate doors!
Our colour consultant suggested that because we wanted a woodgrain look, that it might look a bit funny to have the underbench cupboards/drawers in wood and the top cupboards in a complimentary colour - like as if we ran out of woodgrain? I'm not sure, as a lot of the display homes have a darker plain colour for over head cupboards, and a lighter or really dark colour under bench - but then it may be one of those things that really date the home to being 2000's. As a suggestion what about the face of the laminate under the bench (the side you'll see from the dining/lounge/whatever) so that when you're looking at the kitchen it would be the dark laminate next to the floor, the bench top, then the lighter colour of the laminate cupboards at the back of the kitchen? But really - I have no idea! Ray. Second Time 'Round Re: Where should I put the feature laminate in my new kitchen? 3Jul 12, 2007 9:59 am Not quite on topic, but that microwave recess looks dangerously high - it's at about 1600mm?
I'm 185cm and 1600mm is the top of my shoulders. I would not want to be reaching up this high to get boiling hot items out of a microwave. Are all the people in your family quite tall? If not I would be advising that you consider lowering the bottom edge of the cavity to around no higher than 1400mm. I hope someone can be more helpful with our colour needs. Cheers, Earl edit: just saw the annotation re the height not being recommended by the builder - I concur. Re: Where should I put the feature laminate in my new kitchen? 4Jul 12, 2007 10:12 am Sorry Earl - should have added that the microwave recess isn't a microwave recess - it will be used to store recipe books........it has actually been changed on a later plan I just can't find it!!!!! So no issues there!!! Re: Where should I put the feature laminate in my new kitchen? 6Jul 13, 2007 11:33 am Hi,
I am planning at the moment and considering using the ligher colour (white) for my underbench drawers, my benchtop is a timber lookalike(stringybark) in laminate. For the other colour which is also a timber lookalike (light brownish) I was thinking of using it for the doors of all my tall items like the pantry door and the oven cabinet and appliance cabinet if I have one to break up the white which I thought would be stark for taller items. I don't have any wall cabinets. I also love laminex fossil but that idea probably wouldn't work for that colour as it might be too extreme but thought I'd mention the idea anyway. It must have dropped off her radar. Someone post something lime green in here... that should prick her ears up. After taking your ideas on board and consulting with the girl at Laminex I decided to combine the ideas and used the darker laminate for the overheads & higher cupboards and also the back of the bench! Thanks again Nat Re: Where should I put the feature laminate in my new kitchen? 9Jul 19, 2007 1:14 pm Cookiemonster vpande Wait till michelle sees this I thought Michelle would be all over this thread like a bad smell. Your oven…..stainless? Stainless handles? Stainless canopy…..YES? Appliance Roller door – Colour? Glass splashback…..natural tint glass? - green tint. On your floor plan of the kitchen I can only see one set of draws…other than the pot draw, are there any more that I can’t see? Frosted glass in overhead cupboards 2 x, how frosted??? Lightly or heavily…….white frost? Suggestion here…..why not have them the same colour as the green tint of the glass splash back? (if that’s the colour your having) this way there will not be too many colours in the one area of your kitchen. Just an idea….. Anyone had one of these done recently? Not sure if they are straight forward and easy… 0 774 hey there! 😊 so, it’s kinda common for standard drawer depths to be around 500mm since most cabinets use this size to fit the usual runners… 3 20922 0 9826 |
