Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Nov 16, 2009 8:52 am I am moving into my investment property in Januany and loathe the colour of the splashback. Can someone tell this novice whether the colour is in the glass or on the wall? Either way, how hard is it to change the colour? Thank you. Confused Renovator Re: Changing splashback colour 2Nov 16, 2009 9:12 am Usually the glass is painted. When I thought I was unhappy with my new splashback and asked about getting it changed, they said nothing about there being any problems, just gave me a quote and said let us know what you decide. Re: Changing splashback colour 4Nov 16, 2009 10:53 am DamNita Thank you SuH. The problem I think ****** in that I have the rangehood installed so that would have to be dismantled. Off to look at some splashback colours... See you in about a year then shall we Re: Changing splashback colour 5Nov 16, 2009 11:54 am Suh do you remember roughly how much they quoted you to change the colour? The reason I ask is I am torn between 2 colours. I like one better than the other, but I think the second colour might be easier to tie in with accessories. If I knew it wasn't going to cost a fortune to change it if it just didn't work I'd go with my favourite. thanks Liz Re: Changing splashback colour 6Nov 16, 2009 12:00 pm It was $1300. That's what mine cost, so to change it was going to be the same. I don't think they were going to charge me for removal, they probably didn't want to upset and already unstable person Re: Changing splashback colour 8Nov 16, 2009 12:31 pm Just to be sure that this part of SuH's reply is clear; the colour change price is the same price as the splashback because they will not be changing the colour of the splashback, they will be removing the old one and putting a new one in. Yes your rangehood will have to come out if it is fitted over the splashback, as will any GPO's or Datapoints that are fitted through the splashback, so you will possibly need an electrician as well. The glass is most likely fixed to the wall with a silicon-adhesive which makes removing it in one piece for refinishing a bit of a pain. Cheers, Earl Re: Changing splashback colour 10Nov 16, 2009 1:03 pm Liz521964 ok thanks. I thought they might have been able to reuse the glass and therefore it wouldn't be the whole cost. thanks though I actually got a quote for the reuse of the glass, that was if they could get if off in one piece, it was actually going to be more. Re: Changing splashback colour 11Nov 16, 2009 2:35 pm IF being the operative word. Reason for a higher price is that once they got the glass off (I would be charging a Shipload to do that without breaking it) they have to take the glass back to the factory, clean the old paint off (a bit of a pain if they did it properly in the first place) then spray the new colour on before returning to fit. Normally when glass is painted it is nicely new and clean - once paint has been on the surface it is a greater hassle to paint "perfectly" again. Cheers, Earl Re: Changing splashback colour 13Nov 16, 2009 2:47 pm Hey DamNita , my DH works in the glass industry and when I queried him about changing ours he said that the only way to change it is to smash it off and fix it with a new panel of glass (which is painted the colour that you wish). When they install it they usually glue it to the wall and then silicone the edges...Sorry I don't know the technical terms . How much are you ahead in payments compared to where the build is at?
