Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Nov 09, 2009 7:06 am What would you choose ... aesthetics or appliance .... ???? I would like a bench height of 900m (cos I am a tall 5"1"), and my kitchen designer thinks that based on design, a 60m stone top would look great (though haven't seen the cost yet .. so this might solve everything). Island/bench is around 5m and has a waterfall end thing. Now my drama is that I would like a 14 place setting dishwasher (as I like to entertain), and am looking at either Meile or Asko. The dishwashers come in at 85 - 86 cm tall. Which means my bench has to be around 91 - 92 cm. That extra cm makes a difference for me especially with chopping etc. Soooooo .... I know it's silly ... but which would you go for ... the looks or a talller dishwasher (probably will have a thinner stone top)??? Re: Dishwasher or Bench thickness 2Nov 09, 2009 7:12 am It would help if you could post a pic of your kitchen layout to know if what I'm suggesting is ok..... BUT Does it have to be 60cm the whole way through? Most display homes etc.... the thicker bench (10cm, 4cm, 6cm, etc) is only seen from the outside of the kitchen. The side of the bench that is inside the kitchen is usually only 2cm or 4cm, the reason being cost, and also so you can fit the dishwasher and other appliances under. I've NEVER seen a bench above 4cm in thickness with any appliance under it. Edit: sorry, I noticed you did say island bench. Have a look at this thread, scroll down to coljacqld's post. You can see her island bench.... thick on the outside, thin on the inside to fit appliances. This is what I was trying to explain. viewtopic.php?f=16&t=6774&hilit=island+bench I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself.
