Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Nov 08, 2009 6:04 pm Hi Forum, I want to select kitchen appliances but can't decide on the below question. It would be great if anyone have any picture of 60 cm or 70 cm Cooktop with 90cm rangehood.... Quest: Will 90cm canopy look good with 70cm cooktop in the kitchen ? Thanks forum. Cheers, Simpson Re: is it practical? 70 cm cooktop and 90 cm canopy???? 2Nov 08, 2009 6:18 pm In my Kitchen in our last place in Melbourne, I had a 685mm Technika gas cooktop with a 900mm Robinhood canopy rangehood. I thought it looked great. Re: is it practical? 70 cm cooktop and 90 cm canopy???? 3Nov 08, 2009 6:27 pm IMO, they should be in line and be same width. Re: is it practical? 70 cm cooktop and 90 cm canopy???? 4Nov 08, 2009 6:40 pm As long as the cooktop is centred under the rangehood, I don't reckon it makes any difference. And I have had it both ways, cos this time both are 900mm in my kitchen It's all a matter of personal opinion - do what works for you. Re: is it practical? 70 cm cooktop and 90 cm canopy???? 5Nov 08, 2009 6:42 pm I think it would look fine, different if it was the other way around...smaller rangehood with bigger cooktop. The canopy can be a feature of the whole kitchen and people don't look at it in comparison to the size cooktop. Re: is it practical? 70 cm cooktop and 90 cm canopy???? 6Nov 08, 2009 6:43 pm I agree to both. So long as they are centred you at least need a rangehood same size or larger than the cooktop. Since having 900mm cooktops in new house and previous house and 600mm in first house, I feel you benefit more if you enjoy cooking to have a larger cooktop. If you have no choice in cook top sizes then go for it. Re: is it practical? 70 cm cooktop and 90 cm canopy???? 13Nov 09, 2009 12:01 pm Yes, I thought they only came in 600mm and 900mm . Which is why I chose the 900mm to go with my 685mm cooktop in Melbourne - I didn't want a big cooktop, a 5 burner was sufficient for what I needed, BUT I really really hate the look of the 600mm canopy rangehoods - to me (and this is totally my own preference, with no reflection on anyone who has one ) they look too "boxy" somehow. I think the 900mm looks more streamlined and elegant. I really never noticed the difference in size at all and certainly noone else ever commented on it. The rangehood is so far above the cooktop and if you centre the cooktop under it, it's only a few cms either side difference. So no biggie, IMHO. Re: is it practical? 70 cm cooktop and 90 cm canopy???? 14Nov 09, 2009 12:54 pm My understanding is that it's actually preferential for the rangehood to be bigger than the cooktop. Much better suck up apparently. Seriously, the cooktop should never be bigger than the rangehood, but for the rangewhood to be bigger is no problem. It won't look strange at all Simpson. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: is it practical? 70 cm cooktop and 90 cm canopy???? 15Nov 09, 2009 1:08 pm I think that it would look fine. We have a 1100mm freestanding cooker and are installing a 1200mm rangehood over the top - only because 1100mm are as rare as hen's teeth and the ones you can get are massively overpriced. So we chose a 1200mm one for half the price of a 10cm smaller one. Some things are worth waiting for.
