Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Nov 02, 2009 9:01 pm Hi everyone, I love looking at everyone else's renovations, so thought I would start a new thread about ours. It is a 35 year old house and it's really had nothing done to it during that time. We moved into the house in Jan this year. So far we've cleaned, painted, plastered some exposed brick walls and beams and got some new blinds. We've recently started the kitchen reno. We are completely changing the layout. Here are some photos of the original kitchen: Real estate agent photo: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Once we moved in: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The exposed brick wall (now plastered). This was the difficult corner of the kitchen. It will be a corner pantry soon. We haven't got the exact starting date yet. Next weekend we need to finish ripping up the cork flooring, Adam (he's an electrician) needs to move the power, finish removing the wood from the wall and then we need a plasterer to finish off the roof. Lots of work, but we cannot wait to see the finished product. I'll post photos as we go. Kate Re: Our Kitchen Reno: The work in progress begins.... 2Nov 02, 2009 9:12 pm I just love seeing before and afters. Looking good so far. Which wall got taken out? The one behind the kitchen cupboards in the first pic? How and where is the new kitchen going to be? In the same spot? Nothing better that getting rid of a wall or two and opening up the house. We did the same it the house looks so much more spacious. Re: Our Kitchen Reno: The work in progress begins.... 3Nov 02, 2009 9:38 pm The wall we removed was the one where the oven used to be. This now joins the dining and kitchen together. We will also be tiling the whole area eventually, but need to wait for a few other rooms to be finished so that it can be tiled all at once. The new kitchen.... The wall with the existing pantry, cupboards and fridge will now be the fridge, drawers and oven...this will extend to the funny corner and that will be a corner pantry. There will also be a 2.5 metre island bench with the dishwasher, sink, microwave, drawers, etc. The window that used to be above the sink will become a full length window and the old full length window will become a door. We are having polytech mountain pepper for the cupboards and 40mm Osprey caesar stone for the benches. We will also be having frosted glass overhead cupboards. Haven't decided on the splashback yet, but we don't need to decide until after it's installed. Hope that makes sense... Kate Re: Our Kitchen Reno: The work in progress begins.... 5Nov 03, 2009 5:33 am looks like a big job - let me know how you go lifting up the cork - we have cork as well and we have been warned its a rotten job - it all depends on what the cork was laid on. We have finally decided our final design - we start after Christmas - yeh - I'll be watching closely to see how you go. Re: Our Kitchen Reno: The work in progress begins.... 15Dec 12, 2009 11:57 am Well the progress has continued and I have some more pics for you. The colour is Mountain Pepper and the stone benchtops will be Osprey. Things happening next week: benchtops, plumbing finished (sink, tap, dishwasher & gas top) and then the painting begins. We still need to swap windows and doors once the laundry is renovated, but that won't be for a few months. We will also be tiling, but not until the rest of the house is ready for tiles (could be 12 months). The glass splashback will go in early 2010.
