Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Oct 25, 2009 4:30 pm I was speaking to the sales guy in the tile shop, he suggested a cheaper by stylish alternative to glass splashback is to use porcelain 600x600mm tiles, as they give the reflective effect of glass but without the cost. has anyone tried this? Re: 600x600 porcelain for kitchen splashback - anyone tried? 2Oct 25, 2009 7:54 pm I wanted to do this but was told by the builder and the tile shop that they would not be able to -the tile is too large to cut out powerpoints etc without risk of breaking. I have seen some pictures in this forum with this size though. I guess it all depends on the tiler and tile shop-if they can do it , then go for it. Re: 600x600 porcelain for kitchen splashback - anyone tried? 3Oct 26, 2009 8:04 am I have done this in my kitchen. The range hood had to be 608mm above the benchtop for regulation requirements. Im in Victoria. I didnt want a tiny strip so we got the cabinet maker to make the overheads 613mm above then put a 12mm capping strip on the bottom of the tile on the benchtop and allowed for 1mm of grout. This worked out perfectly Its a bit hard to see their tiles on the photo but thats the effect you want isnt it I used some spare floor tiles so the splashback cost nothing Know where your going in life............... you may already be there Re: 600x600 porcelain for kitchen splashback - anyone tried? 4Oct 26, 2009 8:10 am Taffy I have done this in my kitchen. Re: 600x600 porcelain for kitchen splashback - anyone tried? 5Oct 26, 2009 8:12 am Thats incredible i saw this photo in another thread and i thought it was a glass splashback matched to your cupboards - did the tiler have any problems cutting a power point in? Beautiful kitchen!!!! Re: 600x600 porcelain for kitchen splashback - anyone tried? 6Oct 26, 2009 8:21 am No there was no problems he just made the cut the same way as the plaster guys cut holes in the plasterboard. I have 2 double power points there 1 each end of the splashback. I used the same tiles in the ensuite laundry and bathroom for the walls but a 600x300 version and have heaps of power outlets there too. Know where your going in life............... you may already be there No. It's not original. Circa early to mid 90s would be my guess and maybe even as late as early 2000s 1 6631 2 4672 |
