Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Oct 25, 2009 8:07 am We are renovating our kitchen and I would like to put in a double oven (actually 1 & 1/2). I do alot of cooking and I think I would get the use out of it and I like the idea of having a seperate grill to my main oven. I have narrowed it down to a Bosch or Electrolux - I am finding the width of ovens very limiting - too small! Does anyone have any ideas or experience with this? Thanks Re: Double Oven - what brand to go with? 2Oct 25, 2009 6:48 pm Hi, We're looking at getting a full double oven and so have been looking around a bit at these. I know what you mean about the size...most ovens have a really small usable volume. Some of the 90cm ovens have smaller volumes than the Electrolux and Bosch 60cm ovens. Anyway, we're most probably going to get the Electrolux at this stage. Choice recently did a review on the double ovens that you are looking at and the Electrolux came out on top, followed by the Westinghouse and then a Whirlpool and then the Bosch . As far as volumes go the Electrolux has a larger usable volume than the Bosch. Main oven is 64lt to 52lt and half oven is 37lt to 27lt. HTH 'chelle We have a hand-over date...15/10...but I won't hold my breath! http://people-in-glass-houses.blogspot.com/ Re: Double Oven - what brand to go with? 3Oct 25, 2009 6:59 pm I read the choice article and that is what has made me confused!!!! I had decided on the bosch because it was supposedly better made, better quality - but also the inside fit in my oven trays - and I was advised against the electrolux - didn't even look at the westinghouse - most salespeople state you can't compare Australian made with german. I have looked and relooked at the electrolux & bosch - the electrolux has more functions in both ovens - what I am not liking is something the choice article doesn't even mention - the telescopic arms in both the large and small ovens - I found it difficult to lift the trays off the arms and to fit them back on - worse when they are hot! It also limits where you place you wire racks. I am just trying to compare what I do with my current oven (20yr old vulcan) to these new ovens - maybe i just need to adapt. Re: Double Oven - what brand to go with? 4Oct 25, 2009 7:56 pm Hmmm, interesting. Can I ask why you were advised against going with the electrolux? We're leaning more towards the electrolux as, as I said, we want a true double oven (as we have a family of 6) and there are only a few available. The electrolux seems to be the best of these and I'm sure it will be a lot better than our old Chef. The other option we have, is to go for 2 separate ovens and we were looking at getting 2 separate Bosch ovens, but then that gets a bit expensive 'chelle We have a hand-over date...15/10...but I won't hold my breath! http://people-in-glass-houses.blogspot.com/ Re: Double Oven - what brand to go with? 5Oct 25, 2009 8:07 pm One thing the salesmen said was that the electrolux surface was pitted, making it harder to clean - the bosch has a smoother finish - can't remember exactly what it was made of. both have catalytic liners on all surfaces but the bottom. In one store, the ovens are side by side, and they said they would go for the bosch over the electrolux anyday - it was simply a better oven. Another salesman was an ex bosch rep so he was biased to begin with. I am getting an electrolux induction cooktop - no problems there. I found it really hard to get straight advice/answers on the two brands - why pay more for the bosch - and then the choice article came out - it was tested for it actual cooking ability - which has made me think about what I am going to buy. Now that i think about it - I don't think there was really a reason why one was better - most just favoured the bosch. Has anyone had problems with electrolux? But I was intrigued by your remarks about the telescopic arms. I was really taken with the telescopic arms and of course all the salespeople were trying to sell them to us. Then we had one salesperson say that exact same thing to us so it put me off looking at telescopic arms. However, the deal we got with the Bosch, they included some telescopic arms (on 2 shelves) but I've never bothered to put them in, after what the other salesman said (unfortunately we didn't buy from that guy - he couldn't offer as good a deal as we got). I suppose I should try them, just to see what they're like, but I'm quite happy with the wire racks as I can put things anywhere I like. Just interesting to hear somone else make the same comment Re: Double Oven - what brand to go with? 7Oct 26, 2009 7:56 am The problem with the telescopic arms in the electrolux is that they come standard and can't be removed - the sales guy said that you couldn't order just a standard set of wire racks - anyone else know any different? Re: Double Oven - what brand to go with? 8Nov 04, 2009 2:54 pm Impatient Has anyone had problems with electrolux? I phoned Electrolux today. Unfortunately all their induction cooktops are made in China (which is not really reflected in the price). I was also very disappointed that they didn't really know detailed specs of their units, despite claiming that they are designed in Australia, and having "asked the technical department". It makes me very suspicious of Electrolux and Westinghouse (same company) induction cooktops Re: Double Oven - what brand to go with? 9Nov 04, 2009 3:53 pm This is totally off the topic of double ovens but the Electrolux gas cooktops are also made in China now. We ordered one in May on the understanding that it was made in Brisbane. Before it was to be delivered the salesman rang and told us that they were now being made in China so we cancelled this order. We were told that Electrolux was gradually shifting their manufacturing off shore. This is a shame as I would prefer to support Australian jobs. If I was ordering a double oven I would check out where they actually are made.
Re: Double Oven - what brand to go with? 10Nov 04, 2009 4:41 pm Hi, just renovated our kitchen and we have an electrolux e-line oven, and an electrolux e-line microwave fitted above. My son is renovating and has purchased the electrolux 1 1/2 oven. I find no problem with wiping my oven out, can't see that it is "pitted" in any way. For ease of use I think you will find the electrolux is great, but if you want the brand name of Bosch then go for it as I suppose it has more prestige. I ummed and arhhhed for a long time over the choice of oven, would have liked Bosch......but trying to keep to a budget I decided I wanted caeserstone benchtops more.....However both son and I have bought the best new Bosch dishwasher that has the slide out utensil tray and it makes less noise than my electric kettle, extremely happy with it. My daughter in-law was the one who changed my mind about trying to budget in the Bosch Oven, when she said "Afterall, what is an oven, but just a box that heats up!" Yep, she is right you know! Re: Double Oven - what brand to go with? 11Nov 04, 2009 8:24 pm It makes me very suspicious of Electrolux and Westinghouse (same company) induction cooktops /quote] Yes - chef (entry level), westinghouse, AEG, and electrolux are all the same company - but I thought Electrolux (top end of the market) was supposed to be german made??? The induction cooktop i was buying included a set of saucepans (because mine don't work on it) but I missed out because i hadn't paid for it in full by the closing date - so i'll be looking around for a good deal - i'm not really fussed on brand types - just as long as they do their job. Re: Double Oven - what brand to go with? 12Nov 04, 2009 8:32 pm davjoa - does you electrolux oven have telescopic arms? That is one of the reasons i was hesitating against the electrolux - they seem fiddly. I'm not one for prestige - I just want an oven to do its' job - and also big enough - alot of them are not wide enough to fit in my dishes. I do alot of cooking. Re: Double Oven - what brand to go with? 13Nov 05, 2009 7:20 pm Are you convinced on the Bosch or Electrolux? In the last house we had Delonghi 90cm freestanding oven and my mum as the Delonghi 90cm built-in oven and we've both been really happy with them (except the grill functions aren't fantastic in big ovens), but in this house we've decided to try the double oven. We are getting a Delonghi 1 1/2 oven. There are two models, one is $2,899 RRP which are approx the same price as the Electrolux and the other is $3,199 RRP (main difference is that the more expensive one has electronic functions for the big oven). My MIL has an Electrolux (she only bought it last year) and she often comments that it seems to be quite a cool oven and sometimes takes ages to cook things. We've been told that the Delonghi is like a 'turbo' oven and cooks roasts in 45minutes and pizzas perfectly in 9min. Our house isn't finished til next year, so unfortunately I can't comment yet from personal experience cooking with it, but I'm looking forward to trying out the 'turbo' oven as I am quite impatient Happy oven hunting Re: Double Oven - what brand to go with? 14Nov 05, 2009 7:27 pm Thanks for that - I will look into the delonghi - haven't as yet - the Bosch is my preferred so far and i can get that for $2800 - interesting what you say about the electrolux - have heard that a few times. I'm looking up the delonghi now. Re: Double Oven - what brand to go with? 15Nov 05, 2009 7:38 pm If it helps, I purchased our oven about two weeks ago, and we got the Delonghi one that is $3,199 for $2,400. Re: Double Oven - what brand to go with? 17Nov 05, 2009 8:06 pm We purchased the DE602EPS $3,199 RRP purchased for $2400 Was going to get the DE62MPS $2,899 RRP which we could have purchased for $2,200ish I think both of those are the two current models and the two others on the website are the previous models (different shaped knobs) Re: Double Oven - what brand to go with? 18Nov 06, 2009 7:00 am Telescopic arms are not proving fiddly at all, just slide the two arms out and slot the tray on, voila. As to how my oven heats up, I think each oven has its own character that we need to get used to. The first thing I tried was a batch of lemonade scones and if anything the Electrolux was warmer than my old oven, buy hey, my old oven was that old it didn't have Celsius on it!!!! Scones turned out higher and lighter than any I had made before...am very happy. I think my son paid about 2,400 for his one and a half electrolux from Clive Peeters, I got my oven from Retravision and could have saved a further 300 on the same model, we are in Tasmania.
