Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Oct 07, 2009 7:50 pm We did pre-start today and they have just e-mailed me to ask if I wanted the kickboards the same as the cupboards or different as we all forgot about it today. The kickboard underneath the island bench is going all the way down to the floor, so it's only IN the actual kitchen. I was going to go a stainless look as we are having a freestanding oven and they are putting a kickboard across the bottom of that for me instead of just seeing legs. I can't be bothered going back to select one, so what have you used?? Re: Which laminate for kickboard? help please!!! 2Oct 07, 2009 9:22 pm We had a light beigy-toned kickboard (matching our cupboards) in our last kitchen reno and I hate how dirty it looks all the time! I'll be choosing a darker toned kickboard this time for certain. I like the look of kickboards matching the cupboards but I would only do it again if there were dark cupboards to match it to. I'll be choosing a med-dark grey kickboard to go with our white cupboards in the new kitchen (pewter to match our dishwasher and fridge if I can). Why don't you have a cruise through the "Show me your kitchen" thread and see whether people have caught their kickboards in their photos? HTH Kylie Re: Which laminate for kickboard? help please!!! 5Oct 08, 2009 3:01 pm Its generally a good idea to go the same colour as your cupboards to give a streamline look. If you add a different colour kickboard you are then breaking your visual image of your kitchen into 3 sections..... Bench Cupboards Kickboards and then you have the floor aswell. Something else to consider...are you haveing different colour overheads this is quite popular at the moment, so this is another dimension.... Try and keep it simple..... If you are having alot of different elements in your kitchen keep the kickboard the same. If your kitchen is going to be very simple 1 colour lets say...then this would just be a little highlight if you go for something like a stainless look to match your appliances. So in a nutshell, in my new kitchen the kickboard will be the same colour as the cupboards. Re: Which laminate for kickboard? help please!!! 6Oct 09, 2009 3:03 pm Sounds like my kitchen is probably going to be too busy for some people's liking then I hope I like it when it's done, though, as I guess that's the main thing! I'm having stainless steel kickboards, chocolate brown wood-effect cupboards, toffee mineralstone benchtop, white splashback, beige overheads! All on jarrah floorboards. Oh well! I saw an example of it in action in a house for sale a while back and loved it, so I'm trying to replicate it! Hope it turns out just as nice! Sounds nice to me can't wait for the piccies Re: Which laminate for kickboard? help please!!! 8Oct 09, 2009 3:39 pm Lol, it sounds nice to me too Katie. Thanks guys, I just couldn't be bothered going back trying to choose a laminate, so we went with brushed aluminium I think. Our cupboards are the same top and bottom, with an almost white benchtop and white splashback. I just didn't want the cupboard colour running as a kickboard across the underneath of the stove as it's a freestanding one. The back of the island bench under the breakfast bar, will be the same cupboard colour right to the ground, so it's only on the "inside" of the kitchen I need it for. Re: Which laminate for kickboard? help please!!! 11Oct 10, 2009 10:33 am Flipping hell I hadn't even considered my kickboard. Now I am worried cause I have white cabinets the kickback will show all the grot. Oh bugger. ....however I am at the point (mentally) where I can't got back and change it now. Will just have to keep a nice clean floor and kickboard - (my mum will laugh at that comment ) Re: Which laminate for kickboard? help please!!! 12Oct 23, 2009 9:25 pm Katie81, I am practically having exactly same colours as you, Concept Oak cupboards (dark brown wood effect colour), Toffee Mineralstone Diamond Gloss benchtop (are you going with the Diamond Gloss or Laminate?), white tiled splashback (would love glass but cant afford), and going for stainless colour kickers. The island bench is the same colour right down to the floor, so kickers will only be in kitchen area. I too have seen it in a magazine pic and thought to replicate it. My cabinet maker has just informed me that my stainless steel kickboard colour choice will add "quite a bit" to the cost of our cabinetry throughout the house!! Not sure how much "quite a bit" is yet but batter not be too much!! Michelle Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=32574 Re: Which laminate for kickboard? help please!!! 14May 12, 2010 3:40 pm Michelle, we ended up going brushed stainless, although it is only laminate, not actual stainless. It cost us an extra $150, and that was through the builder. Are you going real stainless steel? Re: Which laminate for kickboard? help please!!! 16May 12, 2010 4:04 pm No not real stainless!! Ours is Formica- Brushed Pewter which is the same as the Laminex brushed stainless I think. Am thinking I probably don't need the stainless kickboards right through the house anyway. Bathrooms and laundry I will probably just do white as we have gloss white cupboards. Hmmmm.... could even just do white kickboards in kitchen also.... really, who is going to pay that much attention to the kickboards!
