Browse Forums Kitchen Corner Re: I need a new (QUIET) electric kettle! 2Oct 03, 2009 9:44 pm Funny that! Back a couple of years ago, was looking at kettles in Myers. A friendly old guy (customer) was there and said he had bought one which was on sale (a Breville) and liked how quiet it was. Bought it and found it was noisier than our old kettle! Works ok though. Re: I need a new (QUIET) electric kettle! 3Oct 04, 2009 2:57 am we have the Russell Hobbs Whisper kettle, but the one that lights up (which may or may not be the reason I brought the kettle ). We actually find it very quiet, much quieter than the MIL's normal Whisper Re: I need a new (QUIET) electric kettle! 4Oct 04, 2009 9:53 pm Ive only ever had Russell Hobbs kettles and they've all been noisy (why do I keep buying them..) My MIL always gets those Kmart cheapies and they are very quiet, but they are those ugly white ones Re: I need a new (QUIET) electric kettle! 5Oct 05, 2009 4:09 pm Yep I have a $15 Kmart cheapy plastic white one - had to buy it because I accidently set fire to the good stainless Russell Hobbs one I previously had. It is so quiet you don't even know whether it is on or not - I end up pressing the button again to make sure it has boiled. Might be ugly but unbelievably quiet and cheap - when it dies will buy the same again. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: I need a new (QUIET) electric kettle! 6Oct 06, 2009 6:46 pm I also find the cheap plastic ones to be very quiet. And metal ones quite noisy. Maybe the metal acts as an amplifier, but the plastic won't vibrate so much. With the old one, if you we were watching TV and boiling the kettle you had to turn up the volume to hear the TV!! Much better now. Re: I need a new (QUIET) electric kettle! 8Oct 08, 2009 3:38 pm I have a Russell Hobbs 'Abbey Lane' kettle which I think is the same as the whisper ones, but it has a black body and s/s trim. I love it because it doesn't show up finger prints like the s/s ones can, you can get matching toaster, sandwich press and rice cooker (how cool is it to have it all match????) AND they are always on sale (ok well a lot of the time) at Harris Scarfe for about $39-$45 for each appliance. It seems pretty quiet to me I love my Abbey Lane stuff so much I bought the range for my brother for xmas. He will naturally be thrilled to find appliances under the tree. What man wouldn't? Re: I need a new (QUIET) electric kettle! 9Oct 08, 2009 3:52 pm I habe also found the cheapies to be nice and quiet, albeit ugly, hence I went with a Russel Hobbs and it blows you away how noisy it is. If you're in thr kitchen boiling the kettle and someone is talking to you, you can't hear them, it's insane, I think a new kettle is in order for the new house once we move, I quiet like the sound of these whisper ones, will check them out me thinks.
