Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Sep 22, 2009 5:39 pm I've had my kitchen with Diamond Gloss Pure Mineralstone benchtops for a few months now, so thought I should share my review. Whilst it does look awesome it does scratch I already have two scratches (about 1cm long) and in bright sun it is very obvious . I did call Laminex after the first scratch I found and all they said on the phone that it is a paper based product and need to be careful. I would like to think that I am, as I use chopping boards all the time! Just wondering what others think of it? ETA Here are pics of my kitchen http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee3/mychichi06/IMG_1553_r.jpg http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee3/mychichi06/Our%20new%20kitchen/IMG_0909_r-2.jpg Re: My review on having Diamond Gloss 2Sep 22, 2009 7:50 pm It does look very nice but the scratching would concern me a little. Some builders no longer offer Diamondgloss for the above reason. Re: My review on having Diamond Gloss 4Sep 22, 2009 8:34 pm I've decided (thanks to mrsrusty's kitchen pics!) that I am going to go with Diamond Gloss, but I might buy a roll of one of those anti-slip mats from Bunnings to lay on it when I'm working on it Crazy, perhaps, but I love gloss benchtops so much that I'll do anything to keep it as nice as I can for as long as I can (even though I know the inevitable will happen and I'll get my first scratch and freak!!) Re: My review on having Diamond Gloss 5Sep 22, 2009 9:18 pm I didn't really want to scare anyone just wanted to let people know it wasn't as hardy that I thought it would be. It is nice though (when you can't see the scratch ) I've had lots of compliments on it. Re: My review on having Diamond Gloss 6Sep 22, 2009 11:31 pm I like that you got the rolled edges which makes it look sooooo much better in Diamond Gloss. Re: My review on having Diamond Gloss 7Sep 23, 2009 8:32 am we have diamond gloss going into ours so i cant personally comment, but my brother has it in his place and its over a year through and they said they love it and havent been able to hurt it in any way. maybe you did something bad that you didn't realise, that probably would have scratched normal laminex any way but its just showing up because its the diamond gloss? Most likely, or it wasn't me I think that having the gloss though does make it more obvious. Quote: do you have any idea how you got the scratch? Sorry no I don't, the first one I spotted the end of the breakfast bar when I walked into the kitchen first thing in the morning and the blind was up and thought "eeek" its only about 1-2cm though. The second one is near the dishwasher, maybe something hit it as something got put in. So I don't think it was me but who knows. Sorry just wanted to share just so people are cautious. I would like to think I am careful myself I always use chopping boards so not sure how it happened. Re: My review on having Diamond Gloss 10Sep 24, 2009 9:16 am I need to have a close inspection of all my kitchenware as I put it back into my new kitchen. I found my pottery-type utensil holder has very sharp lumps of the bottom which could easily scratch a new benchtop. I will be checking plates and ovenwear too, as these items tend to get pushed across benchtops. Not by me of course Re: My review on having Diamond Gloss 11Sep 24, 2009 9:26 pm kazza I need to have a close inspection of all my kitchenware as I put it back into my new kitchen. What does she have at her house - obviously not gloss laminate ! Re: My review on having Diamond Gloss 13Sep 25, 2009 8:04 pm its a shame that you didnt go longer without getting the scratch but maybe its like a new car, the first scratch always comes in the first month, hurts you the most and then you go for ages without getting another one. Well thats one way of looking at it and I hope I can go a while as we are getting the diamond gloss also. It doesn't really get treated any differently than the ancient laminate it replaced. We use glass, timber & plastic cutting boards and have a rack for cooling oven trays etc on but apart from that its pretty much anything goes. Touch wood we have remained scratch free so far! Yes it has a few minor scratches, but unless you bend down and look at it in certain light you can't really tell. Also, the scratches that are there appear to be knife marks rather than 'wear and tear' scratches. If I had the money I would have rather a stone benchtop I think, but considering the price upgrade from std laminate to diamond gloss is soooo small I wouldn't have it any other way Definitely prefer it over normal laminate any day! Obviously they are white but there are a few whites. I am looking at Designer White Satin cabinets and white valencia diamond gloss. Kez. Re: My review on having Diamond Gloss 17Sep 29, 2009 6:31 am Hi Kez I dug out the paperwork for the kitchen - simply says style is Nouveau -high gloss & color white-white also high gloss.
