Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Sep 19, 2009 5:56 pm Hey Guys/Girls, I'm currently in a sticky dilemma. I am renovating my ktichen, and am wanting to replace my cooktop. The problem is that we have a very old cooktop in place that measures 970mm x 445mm. The cut-out hole we have is 950mm x 410mm. I understand that most cooktops these days are approximately 900mm x 510mm. So i thought i'd post a thread here to see if anyone can help me out with what options i have? The cooktop im trying to find must be stainless steel and gas too. Any advice would be great. You could probably do an inset and stitch it to the existing if it was a contrast Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Re: Gas Cooktop Problem- Hole Too Big? 4Sep 19, 2009 6:34 pm Oops just re-read the delema... It is only a small gap I am sure you will find the right size Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Re: Gas Cooktop Problem- Hole Too Big? 5Sep 20, 2009 8:51 am There are not many around that will fit - I know someone who searched for months and eventualy found a dark glass gas cooktop that fitted and had 2mm of the glass covering at one edge of the hole. one options - Use a stainless cover plate either side so it looks a feature. ie have a bit of stainless made that you then sit the new one on top of and this new strip of stainless covers the gap for you. Cheers Re: Gas Cooktop Problem- Hole Too Big? 6Sep 20, 2009 10:07 am Depending on your current kitchen layout, would replacing both the current cooktop and oven with a freestanding model be an option. This is if the oven is currently situated under the cooktop and cabinetry size not an issue. If your benchtop is a marble material and costly to replace, maybe this could work out cheaper in the longrun. Of course you have to like that look though. Re: Gas Cooktop Problem- Hole Too Big? 7Sep 21, 2009 1:12 pm Thanks kazza. The kitchen is a U-Shaped layout and replacing the hole bench would cause more dramas. I think the onyl feasible option is to purchase a 900mm x 510mm cooktop, trim the cut out hole to fit the new cooktop, and make a stainless steel frame to fill in the gaps on either side. Hopefully this time next week i will have replaced it and will post pictures up here to show you all. I can imagine there would be a lot of people in this position too? Re: Gas Cooktop Problem- Hole Too Big? 10Sep 21, 2009 2:56 pm This place had some models on their specials page. http://www.berloniappliances.com/list_s ... ktops.html They also have a lowest price gaurantee. Maybe you can barter a discount Hope all works out well Re: Gas Cooktop Problem- Hole Too Big? 11Sep 22, 2009 12:16 pm Winnings Appliances stock the Abey/Barazza cooktops. We purchased all our appliances from them and we negotiated a good discount. We have the 1200 Lab version. I only hope it lasts a long time as that would be even harder to replace. can’t tell from the photo, a tie down rod will be 12mm, is it a steel beam? he should be able to work it out 1 4445 Thanks for your advice. So far i have not noticed any issues with doors and windows. Builder advised they will organise drainers to inspect 2 weeks ago but no further… 7 17886 My daughter and son in law are about to start building, they are having a 600mm induction cook top and 900mm oven.
