Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Sep 15, 2009 8:54 pm I have been having a difficult time finding the right company for my kitchen remodel. I think I may have found somebody. He is a retired carpenter who has a workshop attached to his house. He has made kitchens before. I went and looked at his work and it was amazing. He is able to make me a gorgeous full wood kitchen which will fit in my period home perfectly. Only one small problem...while I have a period home and I want the kitchen to resemble an "old fashioned" kitchen I do want modern conveniences such as soft close draws. The carpenter is not comfortable putting these in. The draws are going to be all solid wood. If I were to purchase the Blum systems could I have someone fit and install them after? Will they work with solid wood? And where can they be purchased from? I am not concerned about the doors just the draws. Re: Blum soft close drawers 3Sep 15, 2009 9:23 pm Ikea sell blum drawers and if you're handy they're not too hard to install. They just simply "click" onto the drawer fronts with some spring mehcanism. Re: Blum soft close drawers 5Sep 16, 2009 12:15 am here's the one they sell at ikea. The sides and back of the drawer are made of metal so you'll have to replace the whole drawer. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Blum make another one for wooden drawers which is rails/runners only called Tandem. see more info at this link: http://www.blum.com.au/au/en/01/30/20/index.php Ikea don't sell this one so you'll need to find out from Blum to see who sells them. Re: Blum soft close drawers 7Sep 16, 2009 12:39 pm You need completey different draws, soft close drawers are not an 'attachment'. My experience is that it can be quite difficult to find a cabinet maker to come and do such a small job. And also more costly. Could I suggest that maybe the issue is that he is a carpenter and not a cabinet maker? And perhaps thats the reason he is hesitant to use the drawers?
