Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Sep 14, 2009 5:11 pm I have only ever had a kitchen with the standard set of 400mm wide cutlery drawers. I have been reading all the advantages of larger drawers on this forum, but is there any negatives? Would 2 sets of 560mm wide drawers beside each other be way too narrow for plates etc. Or would they look odd being that narrow? Re: Does anyone NOT love their drawers? 2Sep 14, 2009 5:14 pm Pot drawers are great! but make sure you put a non-slip lining in the bottom if you are using them for crockery. We had them in a rental and didn't line them and now all of my crockery is chipped (not expensive so not really a big deal for me). I'm talking about things like slow cookers, food processors etc - they all still need a home. But pot draws FTW!! 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' If you don't have enough, then you're likely to try & squeeze in too many pots into a limited space. So yes, if you have the budget, go with LOTS of drawers, not just a couple. We have 6 900mm pot draws... cannot have enough! Re: Does anyone NOT love their drawers? 7Sep 15, 2009 6:42 pm I have 2 pot drawers and the bottom one has all my pots and pans for the stove and the top one is for plasticware. I actually don't like them much as I find that I have to stack all the plasticware which makes it hard to find stuff and it always looks messy. Re: Does anyone NOT love their drawers? 8Sep 15, 2009 7:15 pm Good point Hels, I was thinking of making the drawers in sets of three at 180mm+270mm+270mm deep. Would this solve the stacking high look? Hopefully I will fit in three sets of drawers plus a 450mm cutlery set. 2 sets of 650mm wide (one of these are the bottom half of the pantry) and one set of 700mm wide. Kitchen guy coming for final measure-up on next Wednesday, maybe he can squeeze some more in somewhere Re: Does anyone NOT love their drawers? 9Sep 15, 2009 8:11 pm kazza Good point Hels, I was thinking of making the drawers in sets of three at 180mm+270mm+270mm deep. We have 6.. the 2 top ones are narrower than the bottom ones. Theyre about 1m in length each and all the knives and cooking utensils go into these. Its very handy and looks great when you pull out the whole draw. The other drawers are for plasticware like Hels - but I sorta disagree with Hels' comment that putting plastics in a draw looks messier. I actually dont think so.. Its neater and you can see everything.. as opposed to having them in a deep cupboard, where your touching everything to get to something at the back. With a draw, everything is in your face and easy to see!! No negatives as far as Im concerned.. oh maybe if you dont have soft closing systems on it, they could get annoying. We forgot soft closers and really regret it!! Re: Does anyone NOT love their drawers? 11Sep 23, 2009 5:04 pm Had final measureup today, poor guys interrigated them for 2 hours. Managed to get in 3 sets of drawers plus the 450mm wide cutlery set. We have a G-shaped kitchen, lots of corners to deal with. Checked on the price to upgrade to softclose and it was $100 per drawer (not per set of drawers), so I will be using non-slip matting like artstiches suggested and try not to slam them shut. Great idea about the top drawer narrower, pinched that one from this forum. Salt&Pepper I luv the colour of your splashback Like pulse said, you can fit drawers however because of the placement of the sink there isn't much depth so you would have to have cut outs for the waste pipes. It all… 2 1170 I've just built 3 stairs off a landing out the back and been told by the private certifier I need hand rails sorry tried to attach a pic but couldn't mine don't have sides… 5 5710 |
