Browse Forums Kitchen Corner Re: HANDLES FOR KITCHEN & LAUNDRY, HELP PLEASE!!! 41Aug 31, 2009 4:58 pm thanks for the compliments! SuH: the splashback colour is a Dulux colour 'Otto's Boy'. We had purchased new stools on ebay, which were brand new & had timber seats painted white. When they arrived they had fine hairline cracks in the paint. Our friend who is a french polisher was able to strip them back & paint them...they are also Otto's Boy colour, I chose it from the colour charts he had. My benchtop has no brown flecks.....just different tones of grey. (Mrs) MickB: the overhead handles are 13.5cm long, the gap where fingers go is 22mm. They are square/flat each side..the facing side is 12mm, the other sides are 8mm. Pot drawer handles are 32.5cm long....sides are the same as O/H handles. Be careful if your get the soap dispenser. Our plumber installed ours and it doesnt pump!! we have tried different liquid soaps (even water) & for some reason it wont suck it up. I cant remove the whole thing to take back to shop so will be paying them a visit with just the tube & container bit. Mine was a cheap one but it should still work. the cupboards are White vinyl gloss wrapped. Re: HANDLES FOR KITCHEN & LAUNDRY, HELP PLEASE!!! 42Aug 31, 2009 9:37 pm Hi Mrs MickB! Pantry handles, ours are 460mm long and we put them vertically, have a look at the blog pics as you'll get a better idea that way, I think shorter would have look too small. Our kitchen and pantry handles are 12mm wide and different lenghts. Hope this helps. Here are our Hafele handles actually: http://www.hafele.com.au/isapi/online/tchff/tchff.asp (page 1.33) Building a Wisdom Prosperity 23 - http://erwisdomprosperity.blogspot.com/ Re: HANDLES FOR KITCHEN & LAUNDRY, HELP PLEASE!!! 43Aug 31, 2009 10:46 pm Hi to everyone, Just wanted to say that all of you have great looking kitchens! It's simply amazing a simple question can lead to so many contributions!!!! You can't go wrong with Häfele .... pity the pricing here in Australia is expensive compared to back in Germany! Häfele does have some nifty storage solutions...which I am hoping to incorporate into my own kitchen (when my house is built that is)... Well, the latest is, we have a laundry in but with no handles of course!! I think I have decided on 8 x 12mm square edged handles with 308mm handles on 4 tall cupboards, 1 overhead and the cupboards under the trough. I have two big 1000mm drawers under the bench which will be used as pull out clothes baskets. I think I will have 508mm handles on these. The kitchen is half in, as the panels and doors are not ready and cabinet maker needed to get it out of his factory to make room. I think I have decided on 308mm handles on tall cupboards, over the fridge, under the sink and on the 580mm drawers and then I think 608mm handles on the 1150mm drawers and 408mm handles on the 850mm drawers. See, I'm still saying "I think!!" I really need to make a decision by this weekend as the cabinet maker is coming back next week to finish putting in the kitchen and to put all the panels, doors and handles on. Just another question!! All my top drawers are only 100mm deep and the drawer fronts are 140mm. I was under the impression at measure up day that the drawer was going to be 140mm deep. Mugs and things were measured to see if they would fit. MickB called the cabinet maker to see if these could be changed and lowered slightly to make them deeper but he said no way it is too late!! I'm a bit dissappointed as this wasn't what I thought I was getting. What depth are your top drawers? Does anyone have 100mm top drawers? Apart from cutlery, what do you put in them? I was thinking maybe trays and cutting boards, tea towels, spices, etc. Anyway, thanks for thinking of me and helping me out so much, I hope my kitchen looks as good as yours! MickB's wife Re: HANDLES FOR KITCHEN & LAUNDRY, HELP PLEASE!!! 47Sep 03, 2009 8:25 pm Hi Mrs MickB, my top drawers are only 80 deep. I have my cutlery in one, plastic cooking utensils laid out in another oh so neatly, chopping board, plastic wrap, foil and t towels in another and shallow baking dishes and muffin trays in the last one. It's working well for me. Re: HANDLES FOR KITCHEN & LAUNDRY, HELP PLEASE!!! 48Sep 03, 2009 10:07 pm Hi there again!! Well, I have just made some pretend handles out of grey cardboard and stuck them on the laundry doors with blue tack. I have actually made them 308mm long and made them that long for everything even the 1000mm drawers and I think they look really nice?!!! Just did a big turnaround again. I told you I was crazy!! Anyway I was wondering how I attach a photo of these to show you what I mean? Thanks, Mrs MickB. Re: HANDLES FOR KITCHEN & LAUNDRY, HELP PLEASE!!! 49Sep 03, 2009 10:21 pm Good idea to do the cut outs It helps to see how the lengths look. If you are happy with the lengths then go for it. Personally I think 300mm on 1000mm doesn't look right, but that's me Yep agree with SuH on the smaller top drawers, I don't have them but I keep all my wraps, foils, snap lock bags, large utensils etc in one top drawer and small shallow tupperware in the other. A friend has a office tray in hers and she puts all the school notices in it Ikea sell a large 800mm cutlery trays which are useful. As for photo's. I use photobucket to upload them and then copy the "img" code into my posts here. http://photobucket.com/ Happy at Home Re: HANDLES FOR KITCHEN & LAUNDRY, HELP PLEASE!!! 50Sep 03, 2009 10:28 pm I originally had smaller and larger handles, then was thinking of just having the same on everything then went back to wanting to match the size to the drawer etc. I finally went back to the kitchen place to see the range of handles again. Now the handle style i have firmly decided on only comes in a 125 and 288 size so i'm just putting the 288 on all. I would have liked having some slightly larger ones but i really love these handles, so its a compromise. I also have been measuring and while larger handles would have been perfect, esp on the pantry i think the 288 will look fine. I'm still waiting for my kitchen and its giving me way too much overthinking time and i know my husband will never appreciate the hours i have pondered over getting the perfect handles. Re: HANDLES FOR KITCHEN & LAUNDRY, HELP PLEASE!!! 51Sep 03, 2009 10:36 pm Mango only comes in a 125 and 288 size so i'm just putting the 288 on all. I also have been measuring and while larger handles would have been perfect, esp on the pantry i think the 288 will look fine. Our builder only provided two lengths in a handle that I really liked (similar to what I have now) so I felt forced to swap to a bar handle which had several sizes. I realised that I just didn't like them at all. Despite not having any handles for months and all the buying and returning I'm pleased I did it. If you love the handles then I'm sure they'll look great Mango i know my husband will never appreciate the hours i have pondered over getting the perfect handles. Ditto! Although he does love the self closing thingy's I caught him playing with a cupboard the other day Happy at Home Re: HANDLES FOR KITCHEN & LAUNDRY, HELP PLEASE!!! 52Sep 03, 2009 10:53 pm You know what i've just realised, I've now also firmly decided on the granite and 99.99% sure i'm getting a coffee coloured splashback made to match my island back with sparkle ...... That means i have no more decisions to make! The handles were my last one. Its just been so nice to chat on these forums about my worries/decisions. I have been totally obsessed with kitchens and renovations for the last 6months. I hope i have no regrets once its in. Yep they are helpful. I'm sure it will all turn out lovely and in six months time someone else will come on here and ask the same questions and we'll be a wealth of knowledge for them. Happy at Home Re: HANDLES FOR KITCHEN & LAUNDRY, HELP PLEASE!!! 54Sep 04, 2009 12:23 am Hi Mrs MickB, Well, so long as you're happy with the length that you've chosen.... If you're still in the "I think" stage, than try the longer cutouts for your longer drawers and pantry door in addition to the 308mm cutout handles that you've already done....and than post some pics ( ) ps. Houseofl and Mango, my hubby also has the same mindset as most guys I suppose - a handle is a handle - what's the big deal about the length so long as they have something to grab hold of to open the drawers and cupboards ..... this said by my man..... So I just went for the longest length available from our builder.... I'm contemplating getting the soft-closing attachments put in spearately after our house is built...my hubby has a tendency of slamming the drawer and cupboards shut because he thinks all cupboards and drawers are like my mom's kitchen - soft/self closing....! Cant contain my excitement! I literally think about my kitchen to be, several times a day. Hubby suggested that since the handles were such an issue for me, that we could blu tack them on before we drill the holes to make doubly sure they are what i want. Dont know if they would stick? I've had a look at more kitchen pics and its funny how you can look at the same kitchen over and over again, depending what you have focused on. I've come to the conclusion that handles can look great on cupboards horizontal, to match the drawers or vertical, which may be more practical. I'll probably have to toss the coin for that decision. I even worried about how much space to have above the oven to below the oven. In the end decided to have it even. Ohh i definately had a bad case of kitchenitis Re: HANDLES FOR KITCHEN & LAUNDRY, HELP PLEASE!!! 57Sep 04, 2009 8:39 pm Mango I'll be posting pics hopefully in a few weeks! I'll give the whole blu tack thing a miss as i dont fancy trying to get it out of the holes. I also think after we put all the cupboards together (flat pack) i'll be too drained to do anything but sit back with a glass of bubbles.
