Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Aug 25, 2009 5:38 pm As title suggests I'm just wondering if anyone has had any experience with polished concrete benchtops & their opinion. We are in the planning stage of an extension & I love the look of polished concrete but just don't know enough about it & does anyone know how hideously expensive it is??? Or is it on par with other solid benchtops price wise! Thank you! PHEW! First post made! Know doubt many more to come Re: Polished concrete benchtops??? 2Aug 26, 2009 1:26 am Oh my God! This is exactly the stuff my Dad and I used to make slabs for our paths. OK these days a grinder is used to sand the stone back and is grinded and then polished with a buff. Great little tool I'll say I supposed it is filled with epoxy or waxed may be to plug up those little holes over the slab. Should not be too expensive I supposed unlike granite it is fabricated and virtually does not need to be cut as it is made to size. Re: Polished concrete benchtops??? 3Aug 26, 2009 5:21 pm Don't have them but I LOVE them. Apparently cheaper than stone or recon stone, believe it or not. Don't know where you are but there's some great pics on this site: http://www.concretebenchtops.com.au/index.htm Please post any info or pics if you go ahead. I'm thinking of doing it myself some day. Re: Polished concrete benchtops??? 4Aug 26, 2009 8:54 pm xquisite Don't have them but I LOVE them. I'm thinking of doing it myself some day. I'm a fellow Mornington Peninsula home owner myself & the website you've mentioned is where I've got my inspiration from! We are hoping to use polished concrete as our kitchen benchtops which will then flow "seamlessly" through to our servery window......well that's the idea at least! Re: Polished concrete benchtops??? 5Aug 27, 2009 1:25 pm Try searching for 'concrete benchtops' on youtube - i remember seeing a fantastic little thing on polished concrete and how they pour them into special moulds & can do some really fantastic shapes & designs... was really creative stuff! We officially own some dirt!! and a little grass... Re: Polished concrete benchtops??? 8Aug 29, 2009 8:20 am I have polished concrete benchtops in the kitchen! I am in regional victoria and was lucky enough to have a local guy who makes them. They cost an extra $1800, this included upgrading the cabinets to hold the extra weight. Much cheaper than caesar stone but quite a bit more than laminex. It will lookeven better once the cleaners have been in! Re: Polished concrete benchtops??? 11Sep 01, 2009 8:37 am Features that I like in these type of benchtops from the construction pont of view are: Can be moulded to suit the kitchen size, shape fixed fixtures Can be built to any thinckness Can have pre inserted fixtures like power points outlets, rims, trims and other objects before pouring of concrete. One can be creative in terms of colours and patterns. Even when thickness may be an issue because of the weight concrete benchtops can be reinforced. To my understanding early saw cuts are to control shrinkage cracks, so doing them now would be pointless. Control joints may reduce ugly cracking during periods of soil… 3 9857 Hi all I need a guidance on how far I need to space expansion joints in the concrete driveway and its type (keyway/foam.) Contraction joints are at 3m max for a 125 slab. Thanks 0 10939 |
