Splash Back - pale green glass Bench Top - charcoal laminate Cupboard Doors - grey laminate Cabinets - grey laminate Drawers - grey laminate Kickboard - silver Hardware/taps - chrome Handles - chrome Feature Lighting - nil Lighting - black lightshade on dining ceiling, will be ditching Extra stuff Floor tiles - neutral cream, in a few years hopefully will be putting wooden floors in Window finishings - vertical blinds, will be ditching pronto We're in the process of repainting the whole house in a neutral off white, to start with a nice clean palette when we move in. All walls were formerly grey, and not in a good way. Pics show things in an unfinished state, so don't pay any attention to the walls, skirtings, painter's tape, etc. I don't have any problems picking colours in general, but I'm feeling indecisive about the kitchen. I love white kitchen cupboards and I have a willing volunteer to paint them (our budget doesn't stretch to more than painting), but I can't decide whether it's worth the hassle or not. I'm not a massive fan of the grey cupboards, and would prefer they were white, but I am a bit concerned if they get knocked around in day-to-day life, they could start looking tatty. On the other hand, I love a clean white interior and if we're going to do it, we'll probably do it now since we're painting anyway. Sorry for dreadful pics - taken at night + reno dust everywhere... Would be interested to hear your thoughts? Leave as is? Go for it and paint them white? I was inspired by Mikaela_D's pics, her kitchen looked great afterwards. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v117/greenblue/housey/DSC01829.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v117/greenblue/housey/DSC01828.jpg Re: Seeking kitchen opinions 2Aug 24, 2009 9:30 pm My advice would be to move in first, work with what you have and see how it all turns out. It’s a big job painting them. I had greyer than your cupboards In my last house and I loved them! Get sorted first, see what you think then. To be honest, I think if they were a darker grey like your previous ones I'd be quite satisfied with them. It's a peculiarly dull shade of grey that they are - but there are worse laminates around, that's for sure. Thanks for your advice. D&SG, I think you're my new hero - one of those clever people that can photoshop! I can't tell you how much I appreciate this, really, this is excellent to see a visual representation. I do prefer the cupboards white for sure. I think you're both right though, that this isn't something to rush into. Thanks so much, both of you! And if anyone else wants to chime in overnight, don't hold back! Re: Seeking kitchen opinions 5Aug 24, 2009 9:56 pm I actually dont mind your kitchen as it is. if it were me, after seeing your pics, I wouldnt waste the money on paint as you may end up not liking the finish and the possibility of scratches. Save the $200 you would have spent on paint and equipment and buy something beautiful that you will want to keep in your house when you get around to renovating. Re: Seeking kitchen opinions 7Aug 25, 2009 3:26 pm Orright, who broke the forum? Haven't been able to get on for hours, but maybe it was a prob at my end!? Just wanted to thank everyone for taking the time to offer their opinion. It's really good to get objective thoughts and there was a definite consensus! I'm going to leave the kitchen as is. I think the potential downsides outweigh the potential positives at the moment, and the grey is sufficiently neutral that it doesn't impede other decoration ideas. Plus I love your idea to use that money for something else, something enduring. CarolineJ I quite like your kitchen as it is No need to blush, the first time I saw it I thought it was OK. (My current kitchen is hideous in comparison.) Then we kinda got the painting bug after doing the rest of the interior walls, and suddenly, painting the cupboards seemed like an option. But commonsense has prevailed!
