Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Aug 23, 2009 10:51 am Hi guys, I've tried to do a search as i'm sure this would have been asked before, what brands do you guys have and like? I've noticed a huge difference in price and while i'm sure it relative to the quality, is it worth paying the extra? I am also looking for an undermount large double sink with the tap cut out in the stainless steel, not in the benchtop. Is there a pro / con for where the tap is fixed? I thought keeping it in the sink would keep the water there plus be one less weak point in the granite not to have a hole cut out so close to the edge. Cheers. Re: Kitchen sink brands? 2Aug 23, 2009 2:55 pm My dream sink (I cant believe I just said that ) is a Pyramis MicroLinen finish sink. Hubby gets them from Greece. The microlinen finish basically means that you never see scratches! And the bowl sizes are quite large. We also sell Fiore which is quite popoluar because they're a reasonable price. And Elfa.... I cant remember what else. Hubby isnt here, so cant ask him about the pro's/cons of the sink hole, but I prefer it to be in the sink too. I dont know why.... Its made by the same company, Tasman that makes oliveri and the stainless is the same grade and the the undermount is made in one piece of steel. The finish is not quite as polished, slightly more dull but for half the price, we went with that. The undermount looks great and just slightly smaller than the large oliveri i was looking at. Got a great package deal, inc a tap mixer, a dish drainer and chopping board for $499. Only had to have the mixer outside of the sink and most undermounts i saw were like that. Cheers Lou We just had our tap installed in the new house and while it looks great we are not terribly happy with it as it is "wobbly" our sink is an oliveri but it doesn't seem particularly strong, we will talk to the builder and see it they can put a plate to strengthen it underneath, but I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this sort of thing? OP, our mixer is in the stone and it feels much better - but you mentioned you didnt want it in the granite... Re: Kitchen sink brands? 10Nov 14, 2009 7:00 am novotel I dream of Franke undermounted squares type sink every night.... but i can't afford the price tag. Franke. it looks soooooooo sexy. I had to have a square sink so I can feel your pain, apart from Franke, there's also Blanco and Smeg - both expensive, but what about this: http://itemlistings.ebay.com/sdcsrp?fl= ... 9&product={query}&sconstraints=IncludeSelector%3DDetails%2CSellerInfo%26ItemType%3DAllFixedPriceItemTypes%26ItemSort%3DBestMatch&xm&siteid=15&rvr_id=&query=square+undermount+sink&fitem=400084230719&mt_id=641&kw=square+undermount+sink Re: Kitchen sink brands? 11Nov 14, 2009 7:25 am EKT vid take2 A friend who owns a bathroom supply shop recommended the oliveri as the stainless steel is thicker than some other brands, which you have to consider with the weight of some of the flick mixers can bend the sink if the mixer is mounted on the sink. Re: Kitchen sink brands? 12Nov 14, 2009 9:03 am I think Franke sells a thing called Tap Support Arm, which is designed to give extra support to a heavy tap installed on stainless steel sink. It's installed under the sink to hold the base of the tap. Don't think it's suitable for pull out taps though. Re: Kitchen sink brands? 13Nov 14, 2009 9:19 am We have an Oliveri sink (not undermount though) and the mixer is very stable. I used a dual control model, so there is not sideways pressure used to operate it. The levers move back and forward, I love it. The best thing is you can still fill up the jug with washing-up stacked in the sink. Got to have easy access for that cuppa. Also purchased the Stainless Steel Utility Tray to match the Oliveri sink (extra $100). Oliveri sometimes have package deals offered, I found HN to be the cheapest supplier.
