Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Aug 20, 2009 11:41 pm We have decided to have a larder built off the kitchen rather than a pantry in the kitchen. So a long narrow-ish room full of shelving that you can walk into. It will about 3m long, but I am wondering what width it should be? Our architect is coming back with first draft of plans next week and he is working out a width for us to start from. Has anyone got one and what width is yours? Do you like the dimensions or would you change them? Many thanks Jane Re: Width of Larder/Walk through pantry 2Aug 21, 2009 8:45 am Ours is 5m long by 1.9m wide. Along the longest wall and then a short return it has 4 shelves. The bottom two shelves are 450mm wide whilst the top two are 300mm wide. Just remember to add adequate lighting - we are going with two round fluoro lights as well as an exhaust fan since we are putting our microwave oven in there as well. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Width of Larder/Walk through pantry 3Aug 21, 2009 10:39 am ours is 1430mm wide (by about the same length as yours whattodo). Enough for shelves and cupboards on one side, adequate benchspace with a laundry trough style sink, and there is enough room for a small return at the end but we don't have one. We have a small window at the end instead of exhaust fan. "Your emotions are the slaves to your thoughts, and you are the slave to your emotions." — Elizabeth Gilbert Living in our new house.
