Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Aug 19, 2009 2:52 pm Hi All, We are renovating an older (1940's?) home with an "L" shaped kitchen and adding an island bench for some seating. Not sure that I want an all white kitchen so here's what I'm thinking: Benchtops - CS Nougat 30mm Lower cupboards/drawers - White gloss vinyl Top cupboards - Lustrous Elm (laminex) Kickboard - white or silver (opinions please!) Splashback - white/grey/taupe glass or tiles depending how far the budget will stretch Floors - we'll be getting the old floorboards polished up (pine I think ) My main concern is the timber look laminex competing with the floor boards. Too "woodsy"? What do you think?? Thanks Re: What do you think of my colours? 3Aug 19, 2009 3:07 pm I don't think it will look too "woodsy". The top cupboards are a fair distance from the floor, so you wouldn't compare them. I also agree with having your kickboards the same as the lower cupboards. I look forward to seeing pictures when it's done. Judie Re: What do you think of my colours? 4Aug 19, 2009 9:47 pm I am shocked everyone seems to be choosing somehow the very same colour schemes. Why? is like the old days of mission brown and dark blue at the end of the day everyone is wearing the same colours and tones. Re: What do you think of my colours? 5Aug 19, 2009 10:19 pm I think there will be enough contrast with the lustrous elm to your floor that it will look fine. As to the kick board dilema, i dont know. I'm also deciding between brushed aluminium to having it the same colour. I sort of think every or at least many kitchens have the s/s look kicks but i kinda like how it ties in with the s/s handles and appliances. I gotta decide soon too and really i dont think it will look bad either way, i'm just trying to get it perfect and overthinking things. I really like that the lustrous elm looks a bit grey and a bit brown - seems to work well with CS Nougat and stainless appliances. It should be far enough away from the floorboards to not be a problem. I'll prob still feel sick until it's installed and know it's a good thing. Still dunno about the kicks, I like the s/s look but a lot of people seem to be moving away from that look. Wondering if white kicks will end up marked and filthy looking Re: What do you think of my colours? 8Aug 21, 2009 4:53 pm makettle Mango I think there will be enough contrast with the lustrous elm to your floor that it will look fine. Re: What do you think of my colours? 9Aug 21, 2009 5:51 pm I just finalised all my kitchen colours (and paid) and we went with the brushed aluminium kicks. It does not look quite as good as the stainless steel but much cheaper. I feel like all my endless hours of researching are coming together and i can almost visualise my new kitchen. Well that's two votes each for the white / silver kicks. As the kitchen needs to be Tonka tough and crayon resistant I'll prob go with the brushed aluminium. It must be a great feeling to have your kitchen plans in place Mango. I know what you mean about endless hours of research - I could start my own showroom with all the kitchen brochures and samples ****** around I look forward to the part where it's all locked in and there's no more decisions to be made (still need sink, tap, handles, splashback ) No. It's not original. Circa early to mid 90s would be my guess and maybe even as late as early 2000s 1 6631 Hey. Head to a metal and decide on which profile you will use first.
