Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Aug 10, 2009 3:40 pm Hi everyone, We are at the stage of setting a break-down of the budget for building our home from kitchens to bathrooms and tiles etc. We want to start with the kitchen but have NO CLUE what the average prices are for mediocre material. We don’t want the best of the best but at the same time don’t want anything bad quality. Are there any links or anyone here who can provide a breakdown of all necessities of a decent kitchen and the standard average cost? Our kitchen is roughly 3m x 4m, we’d want a 90cm gas stove with oven and rangehood, dishwasher, laminate benchtops, wooden cabinates with frosted glass on the overhead cupboard doors Any ball park figure of the average cost would be fantastic! Re: Kitchen budget breakdown 2Aug 10, 2009 7:37 pm Hi, are you going to be putting in a flat pack or having the kitchen installed? If you building new and are going to put a flat pack in then i would definately suggest laminex. Laminex are the cheapest but they only have fixed sizes which is a problem for fitting exactly into a fixed space but if your building new than you can choose to adjust the size of your kitchen to accomodate the fixed sizes. I'll probably get my flat pack through a local company who does flat pack custom made as its still a good saving which will part pay for granite tops. My quote for a laminex flat pack was about $4200 for a 3.9m x 3m L shaped kitchen with a 2m island for the cupboard and doors in basic laminex and that included plenty of soft close drawers. We were quoted around $11,000 to have std laminate kitchen installed so the flat pack is the cheapest option bekchtops around $1500 std laminate and my last quote was $6000 for granite with waterfall ends and underbench sink. I'm also looking to get some aluminium framed glass doors for my wall cupboards and was quoted by laminex at about $90 - $110 each depending on size, mine were about 300 x 690 or similar, i cant remember exactly. and am still waiting to see what the kitchen company will charge. Now with my appliances, hubby and i went bargain shopping for the brands we wanted and ended up spending about $5000 on aplliances, oven, range, cooktop, dishwasher and microwave. We shopped around and after all the money saved i managed to talk my overly logical husband into a pyrolytic oven. Keeping our old fridge for now but leaving the space big enough for the dream 4 door fridge with ice dispenser. Still looking to buy a sink and tap and that will be my next research project. Also have not started getting quotes for a glass splashback so cant help there but tiles will be cheaper. hope this helps. Coming back to your old stomping grounds, huh? Renovations on a budget can be quite the journey. It's like giving your house a new lease on life. The twist of not knowing… 1 3477 No. It's not original.
