Browse Forums Kitchen Corner Re: self closing kitchen cupboards 21Aug 14, 2009 3:52 pm i had hettich soft close draws at my last place, bloody brilliant, used to have big 900 wide draws loaded up with everything and perfectly smooth, (i did only live there for 12 - 18 months). I used blum hinges with the softclose addon again awesome. I live in a rental now with out softclose and its annoying. When i build my own house i would with out a doubt spend the extra money draws are not something that you can change to later with the same quality. And yer $80 a draw and $10 a door sounds about right, when doing kit kitchens it was about double the price between normal draws and soft close. Re: self closing kitchen cupboards 22Aug 14, 2009 7:45 pm Roz Ibb1980, am I right in understanding that if one has the "basic" Blum hinges, one can buy clips/attachments for soft closing to clip on at a later date if desired? And that these are significantly cheaper than the Tandembox and Blumotion that you mentioned? Roz You can buy the soft-closing attachments for blum hinges at a later date. Tandembox/Metabox are draw runners which is different, you can not 'add' any attachment to your existing draws to make them soft closing, but rather would need to change the draw runners (in which case you would probably be better off getting it done in the first instance. gettingThere How does hettich compare to blum? I think hubby has used Hettich a couple of times. If he tried them, it usually means they are of a good quality. But Blum is his first preference.
