Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Aug 03, 2009 4:38 pm I am in the final stages of measuring up for a flat pack U shape kitchen it is quiet narrow - 2.2m wide and ideally woud like like to have corner cupboard at the base of the U shape but have come across a problem. I would like to upgrade the single sink we curently have to two bowls except the bowl of one of the sinks would hang over the join between the sink cupboard and corner cupboard. Does anyone know if you can cut the side panel betwen the two cabinet carcases to allow for this without compromising on support for the benchtop. Re: flatpack and sink problem 2Aug 03, 2009 7:37 pm I'm also getting a flat pack and thought about this as well. I see no problems with there being less support as some cupboards in the flat pack range can be quite long, three doors wide etc. I guess you could always add another support right next to the end of the sink. Where are you getting you flat pack from? Re: flatpack and sink problem 3Aug 03, 2009 8:49 pm That's what I was thinking and hoping woud be the case. Mango, I live in Alice Springs and using a local company who proide custom measured flat packs at the same price as ikea and the like. So far they are really helpful so I might speak to them about this. Still would be interested to hear if anyone else has done this. Re: flatpack and sink problem 4Aug 03, 2009 10:15 pm Cutting the gables down to fit a sink is not a serious issue - your biggest problem might be getting stuck on screws already in place if the carcasses are assembled (this has happened to me) but hopefully you can remove these. The support of the bench will not be compromised by this span, there is still a lot of strength provided by the front rail and the back; I happily do floor units 1500mm wide with no worries. Speaking of 1500mm wide, are your flat pack boys capable of cutting a corner unit with two different length sides? i.e. 900mm in one direction and 1500mm (or whatever you require) in the other - the longer side might be able to accommodate the sink bowls with out the need for a gable cut down (the drainer can extend over the neighbouring cabinet); this side will of course have two doors instead of one. Your fabricators should be able to advise you regarding these options - just make sure that any floor units intended for containing a sink have a vertical front top rail instead of a horizontal one...it makes it easier to fit the sink into the cavity. Cheers, Earl Have had stone benches with undermount sink (kitchen) and drop-in (laundry) and top-mounted basin (bathrooms) for coming up 13 years and not one chip/scratch of any kind.… 2 9677 2 5856 I don’t think so as the floor area over 300 square meters then it is class 3…. 12 17936 |
