Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jul 30, 2009 2:14 pm I didn't have enough time before selections to workout whether to pay extra to have upper cupboards added to the design and when I followed up to see if I could have them added it was not possible. I now know I am going to need to extra cupboards. My questions are: Do I just go to bunnings and buy flat pack and then pay a handyman to install after handover? Does anyone know anywhere else where you can just buy upper cupboards either flatpack or custom? (I'm located in SA.) I know most places I have asked aren't interested as it is such a small job. About 3 or 4 upper cupboards. The other things has anyone ever painted their brand new cupboards so that they match the wall colour and just disappear as such? I am having Solver Vitesse for the walls. Alot of questions, but it would be great is anyone could help. Has anyone else had to add a few extra cupboards after handover or were you all more organised then me and included in the orignal plan. Re: What should I do about Upper Kitchen Cupboards? 2Jul 30, 2009 4:19 pm You can always go to Bunnings or a kitchen place and get flat pack ones. If you go to a kitchen place they might be able to match your other laminate. I can't see why they wouldn't let you add them to the contract as a late variation. I know it costs extra to add them but it might be less hassle. I'd be wary of painting them the same colour as the walls. I have different colour over head cupboards to my base cupboards. Re: What should I do about Upper Kitchen Cupboards? 3Jul 30, 2009 4:41 pm I would go to Bunnings! I don't know how much the kitchen places cost but I can only imagine they would be much more expensive than getting Bunnings ones and getting a handyperson to install. Another forum member got some Bunnings ones for overheads in her pantry and her DH installed them, they were the frosted ones and they looked great. if they are frosted they don't have to match your laminex exactly and I think they look nice and sleek and a nice contrast. I think that's a great idea. That way you don't have to worry about matching the colours exactly. Judie Re: What should I do about Upper Kitchen Cupboards? 5Jul 30, 2009 5:22 pm Im in the same boat as you fitnhealthy. I wanted two cupboards over the top of my fridge as they werent included in my plans. I asked at prestart and they quoted me $650 (or there abouts) so I decided I'd do it after handover - now I have no idea where to start! From reading this, I'd say Bunnings flat pack would be the cheapest option. All you'd need to do would be to find handles that match the rest of your kitchen. The colour wouldnt need to match if theyre just white, or if you wanted the same colour (as brendondanielle already said), try asking at a kitchen shop, or even get the doors made direct through Laminex (or which ever company you have used for the rest of your kitchen) It will cost a bit more, but it would look more uniformed if you wanted it all to match Building 'The Kingston' (with 'Boston' elevation) through Blueprint Homes in Hocking, Perth **PCI complete 06.02.10** My Thread - https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=17607 Re: What should I do about Upper Kitchen Cupboards? 6Jul 30, 2009 6:53 pm Judie donuts Another forum member got some Bunnings ones for overheads in her pantry and her DH installed them, they were the frosted ones and they looked great. if they are frosted they don't have to match your laminex exactly and I think they look nice and sleek and a nice contrast. Also, a lot of people (like me!) are having different coloured upper cupboards to lower cupboards anyway! 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' I had been looking at the frosted glass option, but I noticed it is slightly see through. I guess it wouldn't matter to much. Donuts are there photos of the other forum members frosted glass cupboards do you know? Re: What should I do about Upper Kitchen Cupboards? 9Jul 30, 2009 7:51 pm We have the same issue. Re: What should I do about Upper Kitchen Cupboards? 11Oct 14, 2009 8:55 pm fitnhealthy - I would be interested to know if/when you end up finding some cupboards and someone to install them. I have barely any storage in my house so im looking at getting some cupboards installed in my bathroom once the house has been built. Or perhaps some in the garage! With two little girls under 4 there is never enough storage lol. Im in adelaide as well, but am thinking that bunnings might be the way to go!
