Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jul 29, 2009 4:11 pm Hi All, I'm new to all this kitchen renovation stuff and have found all your pic's and posts to be extremely helpful so thankyou. I wish I'd found this website before tackling the bathroom reno in Feb. We've had a few quotes (actually five!) for the kitchen and I'm feeling pretty underwhelmed at the response. Some completely disregarded our discussions on-site and quoted whatever they liked. Any recommendations for newy based kitchen guys would be much appreciated. thanks Re: New Kitchen in Newcastle! 2Jul 29, 2009 4:26 pm OOOoohhhhh a little Newcastle person sorry I get a bit excited, not many of us here. Ok, here is my recommendation, and I know wee kyton will have one of her own I used Cutting Edge Joinery at Cardiff they are perfectionists. They don't only cater for expensive tastes but also do very affordable fitouts, so as long as you tell them exactly what you want, they should be able to assist. Very nice guys too Re: New Kitchen in Newcastle! 3Jul 29, 2009 7:56 pm Hi there, I was originally a novocastrian as well and love the place. I dont know how handy you are but have you considered a flat pack kitchen? I've got a quote from laminex and it was about 1/3 the price from some kitchen companies. I'm still waiting for my final quote as i am upgradinng to soft close drawers and maybe aluminium framed doors but the sales lady informed me that average size kitchens are around the $4000 mark for standard laminate. The only draw back is you only have standard sizes to work with. My husband and i are trying to save where we can to splash out on granite and a glass splashback. You will find so much info here. Best of luck. I stayed up till the wee hours on many a night, (still do sometimes) researching my dream kitchen. Re: New Kitchen in Newcastle! 4Jul 30, 2009 3:06 pm Thanks Suh and Mango Yes another little Novocastrian! I love the place too. Mango we're so NOT handy, so wouldn't dream of attempting a flat pack kitchen. Not even sure if we're up to the painting! Suh thanks for the tip, might contact the cardiff guys if our current front runner turns out to be a dud. Did they do the amazing kitchen in the pics you posted? I love it. Was that benchtop Nougat? What were doors/drawers? Sorry for all the questions, trying to pick colours/products is doing my head in. The first one for one of our rentals was done by the guys out at SRD Kitchens Gateshead. They were brilliant and quite cheap. We chose to do the kit form however they also do installs as well. The kitchen for our new home is being built by Valley Kitchens, Newcastle and Kurri. Again we found them very reasonably priced and are reassured that they have been in business for close to 30yrs. They also do kitchens for something like 30 builders in the Newcastle / Hunter area. This time as it is our final "Dream Home" they are doing the whole kit and kaboodle - install as well. Good luck with your decision making. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: New Kitchen in Newcastle! 7Aug 04, 2009 5:09 pm kyton Hi from another Novocastrian. YAY Will take a drive to sunny Gateshead this week for a look. Ta ps Suh, after another look at that photo I not only have kitchen envy but I also want your stools and that egg lamp thingy! Well, if you pm me I can tell you where you can get them, the stools are not cheap though Re: New Kitchen in Newcastle! 9Sep 07, 2009 11:24 am Hi everyone, me and my husband are in the process of getting quotes for our kitchen and was wondering how much u all roughly spent - excluding appliances. We have fallen in love with a kitchen at the HIA centre in mayfield - designed by Kitchens for Living but they have quoted me 40k....way more than we wanted to pay. So I was wondering if you dont mind if u could share how much u paid? Thanks in advance Re: New Kitchen in Newcastle! 10Sep 07, 2009 11:56 am Although our kitchen wasn't custom made, I thought I would post a progress picture to show what you can get for less then $2000 if you get flatpax. I didn't consider myself a handyman before this (I didn't even have a toolset) but found it to be quite simple. After a few months of quotes and indecision we have decided to go with Active Kitchens (based at Gateshead). Install should be in a few weeks. So far they have been very helpful, gave them all the details of the appliances we wanted and they sourced everything at better prices than I has been able to get. Looking forward to sharing some pics soon. Cheers, Dan. It's very nice but forty thousand dollars seems a hell of a lot. I'm not sure what your requirements are but I had about five quotes for our job (its an "L" shape with a separate island) and they were from $11,800 to $16,000 not including appliances but they did include stripout and disposal of old kitchen as well as all the trades. We've decided to go with Garry Jeans Kitchens at New Lambton and the job starts in about six weeks!! Of course I'll be posting pics if I'm that clever Good luck Re: New Kitchen in Newcastle! 14Sep 09, 2009 2:01 pm hi makettle, yep thats the one - mind u I dont think we will be going with the orange splashback but it does suit that kitchen. $40K seemed ridiculous to us to - especially seeing at though we will have everything ripped out and ready to go - we have friends who are plumbers / elecos / etc so all I need them to do is supply. The one on display is the exactly size and layout required. Do you mind if I ask who else you got quote off? Cant wait to see your pictures! Thanks for your help Assuming the structure of your cabinetry is good then I would DIY everything as follows: - replace your counter tops entirely, - replace all drawer runners with soft close… 1 4782 No. It's not original. Circa early to mid 90s would be my guess and maybe even as late as early 2000s 1 6632 2 4681 |
