Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jul 20, 2009 11:13 am Hi all, I see that new homes have fridges placed inside a cavity. We're going to do the same thing but we're quite concerned about the depth of the fridge space. The width of the cavity will be 1000mm and the height is about 1800mm, yet the depth is a big problem. Looking at the image shown below, you could see that the total depth of the cupboards ~600mm, so we'll be limited to a 600mm deep fridge. We were at HN on Saturday night and noticed that many fridges are ~800mm deep, so if we want to go with one of these fridges, we'll end up with 20cm popping out of the cavity. What do you think of these 800mm and has anyone of you modified their plans to fit these 800mm deep fridges ? Cheers Re: Depth of your fridge space ! 2Jul 20, 2009 11:18 am I think my fridge hangs out by about 12cm but you need this because otherwise the fridge door will only open to 90 degrees (which would be a pain when you want to pull the shelves out to clean it) Building 'The Kingston' (with 'Boston' elevation) through Blueprint Homes in Hocking, Perth **PCI complete 06.02.10** My Thread - https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=17607 Re: Depth of your fridge space ! 3Jul 20, 2009 11:32 am OUr fridge would have stuck out about 170mm if we hadn't have increased the depth. We ended up turning the mucked-up space in the study into a wardrobe. Incorporating a fridge into the kitchen design means one of three things: 1. The panel that divides the fridge and the bench will be 150-200mm wider than the benchtop (this would be the most common way in a standard kitchen). 2. The fridge is set back into the room behind to allow it to finish flush with the 600mm bench. 3. THe 600mm bench is bought forward to allow it to finish flush with the fridge (therefore creating a 200mm void behind the bench/cupboards) Blog is now up - http://www.jbdave.blogspot.com/ Re: Depth of your fridge space ! 5Jul 20, 2009 11:57 am We have 800 on our plan. So I think it might still stick out but just the doors. Still have to buy a new fridge so will see once we buy it. It's good you realise this now. I think we'll end up buying one of these 630mm deep fridges. 800mm sounds good, but they'll look ugly If I ask my builder to increase the depth into 800mm he'll charge me an arm and leg, but he'll have to kill me first Re: Depth of your fridge space ! 11Jul 20, 2009 6:21 pm Ours is 1000mm But that was only because our kitchen has lots of angles and that was just the way it worked out - we wanted a larger than normal space and I guess we got that! hehe I am not a huge fan of seeing fridges sticking out heaps especially in walkways, if you have the choice get the depth, that way you can have it as far in or sticking out as much as you like ICK So glad the building is over, never again. Loooove our house, but still not quite sure it was worth all of the stress they put us through! Re: Depth of your fridge space ! 12Jul 20, 2009 6:41 pm If you have a look around, all the fridges stick out a bit. I dont personally like it. My fridge space is way to big its 1.4mx1.2m. I thought about reducing the depth and have a desk in the bedroom behind, but I prefered that wall to be straight. But we are having the fridge integrated so the walls around had to be constructed to the exact measurements on the F&P website. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Depth of your fridge space ! 15Jul 20, 2009 10:28 pm I made a last minute modification when building the frame to allow the fridge to sit flush. Behind it is a linen cupboard so we have lost a bit of cupboard depth but its worth it for what it gains on the other side. The depth of the fridge recess is now 850mm and width 1000mm. The left hand side is the bench end which looks to be 600mm deep. Seems to be the same approach for my previous house as well. Re: Depth of your fridge space ! 19Jul 21, 2009 7:48 pm AAAhhhhhhhhhhhh! I just checked our plans and it's 650 depth. OMG! After sitting there and discussing with the bloomin kitchen lady if the cavity will suffice, I do believe that she only considered the width and height. The fridge that we were GOING to get is 84.2 deep. OH geez. Oh well have to get the other one I suppose.
