We love our a/c! Re: stainless steel fridge magnets 10Jul 09, 2009 12:00 pm Fiffaro Whether stainless steel is magnetic or not depends on the proportion of a couple of elements involved in its manufacture. See http://www.physlink.com/Education/AskExperts/ae546.cfm If you want to test if it's weakly magnetic, and acquire some seriously strong magnets that will not fall off, then disassemble an old hard drive. They have a pair of large rare earth magnets in them. Watch your fingers and watch you children. (If children swallow rare earth magnets, they might need to have them surgically removed if they latch on to each other with tissue in between.) Fortunately, the magnets in hard drives often come attached to a larger piece of metal that I'm happy to leave on as it makes them easier to place and remove from our fridge, and protects against swallowing. If anything can stick to your fridge, these will. Besides, what else can you do with your old, failed or superseded hard drives? That is awesome! (I'm secretly a computer geek from way back) I'll keep it in mind when we get our new SS fridge.
