Comes down to personal choice. We debated long and hard over the exact decision and in conjunction with our kitchen designer chose 2 pack. You need to decide what suits all of your needs. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: 2 Pack or Vinyle 3Jul 07, 2009 12:25 pm I prefer vinyl, a lot more durable in my opinion as long as you get a well-made vinyl and not the cheap stuff! Re: 2 Pack or Vinyle 4Jul 07, 2009 3:46 pm Thanks, I have heard that 2 pack scratches very easily but looks amazing. With a 6 and 2 year old in the house, not too sure about it. Have also heard that the vinyl can warp and peel off, so still not sure. Kitchen guy recommends 2 pack. Re: 2 Pack or Vinyle 5Jul 07, 2009 3:50 pm vinyl can peel if its cheap.... look at the thickness of the vinyl of a sample door if you can. If you look after it properly (which includes using the rangehood when cooking!!) then you shouldnt have a problem. George has done SO many kitchens in vynil and we only ever had a problem once with a new company we tried, and we've never used them again and have never had any oher problems They both have pros and cons, you just need to decide whats best for you If you're looking at 2pac, perhaps ask what the costing is like to fix/replace a damaged door if something were to happen with the kidlets Custom European Cabinets - Melbourne Kitchen Specialist PM for business details as website currently being updated! Re: 2 Pack or Vinyle 6Jul 08, 2009 10:32 am What I meant was that it was best to ask each cabinet maker he is approaching - we all know there is an 'average' but that doesnt necessarily mean his cabinet maker will charge it Forward thinking is the key! Re: 2 Pack or Vinyle 7Jul 08, 2009 6:19 pm Out of curiosity can anyone advise of the approximate price difference between the two options (say, per door)? I love the look of 2-pac but it's the most expensive isn't it...but what does that actually mean in real terms is what I'd like to know!? I'd love to know where all the finishes fit in...Laminate (or equivalent), timber, veeners, vinyl, 2-pac and how they're priced Re: 2 Pack or Vinyle 8Jul 09, 2009 1:07 pm My guestimate.... The more expensive isnt necessairly because of the quality, but because of the labour involved. I have no idea with specific pricing differences though. I just know what I do from observing George We dont have many people opt for 2pac so will honestly say tha I slotted it in there as I know timber itself is expensive and then you add labour.... So that may be wrong? Colourboard Laminate Vinyl 2-Pac Veneer Solid Timber Custom European Cabinets - Melbourne Kitchen Specialist PM for business details as website currently being updated! Re: 2 Pack or Vinyle 9Jul 09, 2009 3:49 pm Quote: Colourboard Laminate Vinyl 2-Pac Veneer Solid Timber We have been researching kitchen prices extensively over the last 3 months and this is the same range of prices which we have been given. We are going for timber veneer (my husband's choice - not mine) and there is also a price difference depending on the timber species you pick and even if it is a manufactured veneer. For example, it would have cost us another $2500 if we picked a veneer made from poplars which is then dyed in Italy to give a uniform appearance (New Age veneer). You even have to pick the way you want the timber cut so as to get a particular look. 2-Pac is by far the easier option (and the look I prefer ) Re: 2 Pack or Vinyle 10Jul 09, 2009 5:49 pm Bam My guestimate.... Still would be great if I had some way of knowing that if kitchen X that is such and such a size costs $12k in Laminate...and thus would cost $5k more in 2-pac. I love 2-pac *sigh* Re: 2 Pack or Vinyle 11Jul 09, 2009 6:10 pm Difference in my kitchen pricing between Polytec vinyl and two pack was $2k-ish. But my kitchen is very plain - an 4m island bench and a 3m appliance wall - no overhead cupboards at all; 15 pot drawers and 11 cupboard doors. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: 2 Pack or Vinyle 13Jul 09, 2009 10:03 pm To go froma 2m laminate bathroom vanity to 2 pak was $500 Re: 2 Pack or Vinyle 14Jul 10, 2009 3:30 pm Thanks for the info kyton, katie and buildingwithhamra Don't suppose you guys have pics If I ever manage to sort out my kitchen woes I might have to seriously consider 2-pac as reward for the total BS I am going through ATM (just don't tell hubby ). It's such a gorgeous finish IMO Re: 2 Pack or Vinyle 15Jul 10, 2009 7:03 pm Kelly, when you get your quote for cabinetry, ask if the company will quote on both surfaces, ie both Vinyl Wrap and 2 Pac. The company I am dealing with have been only too happy to give me different quotes which detail prices on surfaces such at matte finishes/gloss finishes and laminate benchtops/caeserstone benchtops. It is very difficult to try and make decisions when trying to keep to a budget. Hope all goes well for you. Re: 2 Pack or Vinyle 18Jul 11, 2009 4:08 pm What an amazing kitchen, the white 2 pak looks incredible. After much discussion we have decided to go with the 2 pak. It just looks fantastic and we couldn't go past it. Our next dilemma though is to choose the colour. We want white as in the above kitchen but are not too sure which white? There are so many to choose from. We have sample pots of Dulux Whisper white that has a slight green tinge to it, Dulux white on white that has a slight blue tinge to it and Dulux vivid white that is their base coat white. Has anyone painted their kitchen in white 2 pak and if so which white?!!!! We are also putting in caeserstone and can't decide between osprey, ice snow or nougat? What are your thoughts? Re: 2 Pack or Vinyle 19Jul 11, 2009 6:18 pm Mick, if you're looking for some inspiration and don't mind trawling through 14 pages of postings (and pics) you might find the following useful (Beware: it's 99% women over there!) http://forums.vogue.com.au/showthread.p ... te+kitchen Re: 2 Pack or Vinyle 20Jul 11, 2009 7:19 pm Our designers as well have been only too happy to give us quotes on both vinyl and 2pack. They also have added separate quotes for things like soft closing hinges / different handles etc. That picture of the kitchen is how my drawer / cupboard profile is going to be. That way I no longer have to worry about placement of handles - thank goodness. No pictures here sorry as only have design drawings at this stage. Some things are worth waiting for. |
