Cheers Re: how to organise a corner pantry 2Jun 16, 2009 7:40 pm AAAhhh I just spent most of today trying to sort my corner pantry out today, something that I keep having to do every few months because it just doesnt' work, so i'll be watching this thread to see if anyone has any you beaut ideas.... Things just keep getting lost in the corner bit. Oh one tip I guess is that I bought a very light weight 2 step ladder from Bunnies and it stays in there so I can reach the back of the top shelf. Re: how to organise a corner pantry 3Jun 16, 2009 9:16 pm Buy lots of Tupperware. And don't let your husband or kids in there. They never put anything back in the right place... Re: how to organise a corner pantry 5Jun 18, 2009 3:14 pm This is mine - this is pre and post a massive cleanout - I hate corner pantries - even with the tupperware. The shelves are just far too deep. I'm thinking at the moment I might swap some of the things I have stored in my underbench cupboards with stuff in the pantry, put more things in the pantry I don't use much and have things I access a lot in the other cupboards, like big tubs I can just pull out with all my containers/and lids in. I need to do something. I did have a minor cleanout and it's not made much difference at all and I know it won't take long for it to be a complete disaster again. Re: how to organise a corner pantry 7Jun 21, 2009 2:07 pm HI there, check out www.hsw.com.au - howards storage world, or IKEA if htere is one near you. i also have a corner pantry with really deep cpboards, and after our kitchen makeover i plan to have it totally organised. i have lots of tupperware, but need more, and plan to buy some roll out storage baskets, and expandable pantry racks, like these: http://shopping.hsw.com.au/product_info ... gr4rj5aae3 Re: how to organise a corner pantry 8Jun 21, 2009 4:26 pm lowy's is a good suggestion. There are lots of storage bits and pieces that you can add, and not just from the expensive storage places. K Mart and Bunnings have some, including simple under-shelf baskets, that just slide onto the shelf above. Those are handy for keeping groups of things together. I'll be picking up some rectangular baskets for my top shelf, to keep picnic stuff, extra dishes and so on tidy. And my big platters and some other infrequently used items will go up there too. More baskets or plastic containers for the floor will keep potatoes and onions, plus bottles and bags organised. Our shelves on one side were supposed to be narrower than the other - when the fitout was done, that was overlooked, so we've ended up with all the lower shelves extra-deep, which is a bit painful for finding things. I'll be looking at IKEA, Howard's Storage World and Store for some ideas to help. I already have my eye on these for the inside of the doors (herbs and spices): Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ and these for those annoying packets that never seem to have a place: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ These are the type of slide-on baskets I was thinking of: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: how to organise a corner pantry 9Jun 21, 2009 9:21 pm kek, just make sure those slide on baskets don't stick out too much or you won't be able to close the doors. I have bought two different kinds over the years and one type fitted, one didn't. Also, sometimes when you are taking stuff out of them, or taking something out from underneath you might catch clothing on it and pull the whole thing off the shelf. Depending on what you keep in (and under) it, it could be a major disaster. The one pictured looks good, but one of mine had these little hooks on the bottom (goodness knows what for!) that I would catch wearing any woven fabric (eg. wool jacket) and the stupid thing would come out attached to my arm and the contents all over my feet Possibly to do with my contents-removing methods, or ** design - not sure! Also, measure the shelf width as they often come with different sized hangy bits (I'm sure you know what I mean!) My tac-home-ter: Been in 8 months! I'm jealous. If you are considering Tupperware, you can actually get a consultant to come out & measure up your pantry & chat to you about your lifestyle, shopping habits etc. It's FREE! Based on that they will reccomend which combination of containers will work best for you. Just be upfront about your needs, don't feel pressured into a party if you don't want (although one way to get free stuff). I have done this for customers & I don't expect them to purchase all at one time (too $$$) once you have the plan you can phone or email every month etc & add to your collection so it spreads out the cost. If you do buy all at once it doesn't hurt to ask if you do qualify for any goodies & the consultant should actually come back & get you started setting it all up. I think they work great and it does make a difference to the organisation of the pantry. Re: how to organise a corner pantry 13Aug 06, 2009 7:43 pm One option is to make the shelves shallower and more of them. I find that we sell more appliance pantries that are 350-400 deep as opposed to the super deep corner pantries due to the depth. Even installing drawers into the pantries are a popular choice as you can find the food quicker and organisation is a breeze. Check out the hettich pantry drawers, awesome idea! I find tupperware all well and good but the problem soon creeps back and your back to square one. A more permanent choice will cost a little more but be well worth it:) Kitchens are like finger prints, no two are ever the same!! I like the decor ones but only use them for storing left overs in the fridge and for lunchbox/food transport. I seem to have a recurring battle with pantry moths and needed to find containers for dry goods that sealed well. Decor doesn't. Did get a bunch of the decor ones today though from bunnings for half price, will used them for stuff the moths don't like.. Re: how to organise a corner pantry 16Aug 08, 2009 8:29 am Pantry moths? Looks like he has a new nickname.... Seriously? You haven't seen a pantry moth? Maybe it's a wa scourge http://www.your-lifestyleonline.com/how ... -moths.htm No matter how hard I try, I always seem to have some, they get into nearly every dry good, eat some, hatch out grubs, leave webs inside then leave- meaning the food has to be thrown out. They chew through plastic bags to get to stuff, they will climb around the spiral screw tops of jars to get inside, and no matter how well I manage to clean out the pantry, get rid of them all, eventually something that comes home from the store re-infests again. i've been battling them for years. I have to store expensive nuts, dried fruits etc in the fridge or freezer, and find sealable tubs for other stuff. But something always gets pushed to the back of the cupboard where a couple of grubs/moths will have an orgy and produce a few dozen moths.. ..and i'm not alone, it's not that I'm a grubby pantry keeper, most of my friends battle too. And so do the supermarkets. i was buying popcorn once and saw some moth traps at the back of the shelf...decided not to buy that lot. Re: how to organise a corner pantry 18Aug 09, 2009 1:36 pm HI Dragonfly I didn't know they actually had a name. I've had them off and on for years too, obviously they made it across the plain to SA!! 2011 Home Sweet Home Handover 03 September 2010 PCI 27August 2010 Plumber 20August 2010 Electrician 19August 2010 Painting 04 August 2010 Cabinets 13Jul2010 Lockup 23June Frame 20April slab 1Mar10 Re: how to organise a corner pantry 19Aug 17, 2009 2:07 pm My current corner pantry is set up with large serving platters and other things you use for entertaining, electrical items like food processors etc on the bottom shelves and then food on the top shelves. It isn't perfect but it works for now (I am just house/family sitting for a year or two. The person who owns the house organised the pantry and I just kept with it). Sometimes it is easier to put food on the crockery shelves and crockery in the pantry as it fits into those random corners. The same goes for electrical, it is bulkier and your not trying to find one small can in the back corner. *Built with Gemmill Homes in WA* Slab - 1st June 2009 Plate Height - 17th June 2009 Lock Up - 18th August 2009 PCI - 5th October 2009 Hand Over - 15th Oct 2009 https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20844 Re: how to organise a corner pantry 20Aug 17, 2009 2:38 pm Dragonfly kek Pantry moths? And so do the supermarkets. i was buying popcorn once and saw some moth traps at the back of the shelf...decided not to buy that lot. I had them in Melbourne too, they breed like nothing else on earth, the disgusting little creatures!!! In our old kitchen, we had the adjustable shelves in our cupboards, so there were lots of little holes in the sides in a vertical line, where you could move the shelves up and down (IYKWIM) - the horrible little moths made nests in every hole in one cupboard and hatched out new moths - it was a nightmare. Finally got rid of them after months of persistent "moth-hunting" and ruthless extermination. THEN we got mice, but that is a whole other story . Once we renovated though, we lived in our "new" house for 18 months and never had a single pest. All that business of knocking out walls, ripping up floors, etc scared them off to someone's else house I reckon !!! MagicJ I finally have my own reno thread: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=28335 The reason a dog has so many friends is that he wags his tail instead of his tongue! Basically. If the shelves are fixed then they will be screwed in just the same as the rest of the carcass.
