Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jun 15, 2009 3:32 pm Actually, I only want to know what kind of bin you have in your kitchen As some people might recall I have been lurking on this forum for coming up to 12 months now and my new kitchen is just around the corner. I am absolutely over the moon about the prospect of a hidden bin- at last! Never had one in the past so not really sure what works...what doesn't. Here's where you come in.... The (hinged) door width is 400m and it is, of course, under the sink. Is there anything I should be aware of with regards to it's placement? I have had my beady little eyes on the single waste bin at the bottom left of the link below. Can't really tell from the pic how it's installed but assume it's OK. Looks like it's on runners of some description and I have to manually pull it out. I think http://www.hafelehome.com.au/catalogue/ ... /bk_82.pdf Any info from the "been there, done that" brigade appreciated - I do not want to make a mistake with this (especially since the bin is close to 300 b****y dollars!!! ). Cheers. Re: Tell me about your waste! Ew! 2Jun 15, 2009 9:09 pm Kelly, we have a double slide out bin like the one in bottom centre pic, both bins are white though, dont recall it costing $224 like the pic It says Hettich International on the front so I suppose that is the brand. Easy DIY installation, DH did it after we moved in. It is on runners so you open kitchen cupboard and then slide bin out, it has a little handle at the front to do this. I use front bin for rubbish and back bin for recycles. Am very happy with it Re: Tell me about your waste! Ew! 3Jun 16, 2009 8:31 am Thanks Helyn I am definitely going to check out Hettich to see if they offer a comparable product for less $$ basically I just want a rectangular (and good sized) bin that fits a 400mm hinged door - it doesn't need to be gold plated like the one I was looking at Re: Tell me about your waste! Ew! 4Jun 16, 2009 9:10 am Howards Storage World sell all of those type of bins as well, without looking I cant say how they are on cost but they have a range of them in the stores to checkout http://hsw.com.au/ Ill be getting a 2 or 3 bin setup as well for sure Blog - http://snakedr.blogspot.com/ Build Thread - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=12084&p=307406#p307406 Status - PCI 15/10. Things nearly done. Re: Tell me about your waste! Ew! 5Jun 21, 2009 9:08 pm I like the idea of the bin in the top right in the link - the small bin that can be hooked into the draw would be helpful for preparation of food. I'd also like to hear about any other products out there. I have put in an extra 450mm cupboard with no shelf to put the bins in as the dogs like to help themselves. I've seen the Howard's Storage World ones, and they're cheaper, but most are smaller and attached to the actual door. Also Brabantia makes one for about $50 that can fit in more height-deficient spaces (not sure how tall your space needs to be though. I lost the bit of paper that I wrote the measurements on!) My tac-home-ter: Been in 8 months! Re: Tell me about your waste! Ew! 7Jun 21, 2009 10:01 pm Thanks for bringing up this topic Kelly, as I have been thinking of the same thing. I hate having bins out where you have to move them all the time to get into a draw or cupboard. I have designated a cupboard that I think we will use. I would love to have a deeper pull out bin but most seem to be only half a cupboard high. I can't believe how expensive some bins are. will have a look at the site you mentioned. R Re: Tell me about your waste! Ew! 8Jul 05, 2009 4:28 pm Novelli Vogue is also the same as the one shown above (bench-top insert). Around $200 from a nearby kitchen shop, but still not sure if we're going to get it. Also got a freebie self-opening in-cabinet bin which we haven't installed yet either. Might put them in the same cupboard to avoid wasting cupboard space - Novelli @ the back, and the self-opening one to the front... Re: Tell me about your waste! Ew! 9Jul 05, 2009 6:40 pm This is the bin I have. It's a double bin that goes in the cupboard because I don't like bins where you can see them either. I use the front for rubbish and the back is recycling too. I love this bin so much so when I sold my house I took it out to put in my new house. http://www.kimberleyonline.com.au/shopexd.asp?id=132 Re: Tell me about your waste! Ew! 10Jul 05, 2009 9:03 pm We actually have a round one attached to the inside door of the sink cupboard. So when you open the door the bin lid opens and the bin comes out. I love this, because if I have my hands full of peelings etc I can hook the door open with my foot and the bin is there and open Re: Tell me about your waste! It looks very similar to the Hettich one that I was thinking of getting. Do you have it fitted under your sink and, if so, it doesn't get in the way of the plumbing? Nice price too, thanks for the info. Re: Tell me about your waste! Ew! 12Jul 14, 2009 2:16 pm _kelly_ brendondanielle This is the bin I have. In regards to the Kimberly Bin, we have fitted a few of these exact bins ( as well as the door mounted version ) and can safely say these are the base models of bins, we prefer sturdy, robust and rigid bins, so when you give it a hard time, it will last. When we build joinery for Australia Government jobs, we have to build it to last, basically this is a good example of taking the testing to the extreme, we stick to brands like Lincoln Sentry, and Hafele, these brands cost us more, but we find, the solidness of these bins far out-weigh the cost. In no way am I saying don't get a Kimberley, just know you get what you pay for.. Sometimes $$$ Value shows especially in this case . Re: Tell me about your waste! Ew! 13Jul 14, 2009 2:24 pm Just googled Lincoln Sentry: http://www.lincolnsentry.com.au/Product.aspx?id=662 Good for a vanity! http://www.lincolnsentry.com.au/Product.aspx?id=659 kitchen bins My tac-home-ter: Been in 8 months! I do agree Hafele's bins seem to be very tough and sturdy after having seen them at their Dandenong (Melbourne) showroom. I was actually playing with one yesterday at a kitchen place in Hawthorn which was stainless steel - something I hadn't seen before (they've been plastic). Re: Tell me about your waste! Nice price too, thanks for the info. It is mounted to the bottom of the cupboard under the sink with a shelf on top and ours doesn't get in the way of trh plumbing. We haven't had any problems with ours as far as quality goes and we have had ours for about 3 years. I also have 3 kids so the bin gets a bit of a flogging from them and it has stood up so far. Thanks mate. Yeah good points! Leaning towards Option 3 to get a bit extra space in the cabinets but not going too crazy high (and expensive).
