Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jun 15, 2009 12:55 pm Hi all, I was thinking of having a tiled splashback but have changed my mind and now think I want a brushed stainless steel one between my cooktop and rangehood, then the rest will be tiled. My appliances are a stainless steel framed induction cooktop and a stainless steel slideout rangehood. My benchtop will be laminate - still deciding on colour - either a slate grey or a mottled brown. I'm in Melbourne and was wondering where I could go to have a look at a few displays using stainless steel and any reputable stainless steel companies I should be contacting. Any pros or cons associated with having a brushed stainless steel splashback with tiles? Cheers Radiochick Re: Stainless Steel Splashbacks - where to look? 2Jun 15, 2009 2:55 pm What brand of appliances are you having?? Most cooking brands have their own stainless steel splashbacks that you can buy from any electrical retailer and splashbacks are usually unbadged so you could choose a different brand than your cooking appliances. If you go and speak to an electrical retailer that specialises in cooking they will be able to show you some different types. Lisa- Finally in our house!!! Re: Stainless Steel Splashbacks - where to look? 3Jun 15, 2009 3:42 pm Thanks Lisa. I have a Bosch rangehood and a Miele cooktop. I bought them from separate places at separate times so the salespeople didn't really go into splashbacks at all. I'll revisit the stores and see what they say. Re: Stainless Steel Splashbacks - where to look? 4Jun 15, 2009 9:10 pm I got a miele rangehood with a smeg splashback and they look fine together. Most brands have splashbacks in 60 and 90cm. Ilve have widths up to 150cm and you can choose one with a rail to hang utensils on. Even ikea (by whirlpool) has one in 90cm for only $110. Re: Stainless Steel Splashbacks - where to look? 5Jun 17, 2009 1:43 pm Hi, I am doing the same as you. I will be having a stainless steel splashback with tiles everywhere else. I have been in to Rick Hart and they had a few on display. Lots of brands make them. Just make sure you get the right silver finish to match your existing appliances. I am looking at the Baumatic ($199) Re: Stainless Steel Splashbacks - where to look? 6Jun 17, 2009 1:45 pm The other place you could look at is a steel fabricator............it sounds scary but its not. Just ring one give them your measurements and find out how much..........its a quiet time for lots of steel companies so you may get a good deal!......... Re: Stainless Steel Splashbacks - where to look? 7Jun 17, 2009 4:48 pm If you are planning to "do it yourself" then a steel fabricator as suggested (do hardware stores sell that kind of stuff? or maybe places like Coventrys?). Don't fall over when you hear the price, it is bound to be expensive, well particularly if the price of "checkerplate aluminium sheets" is anything to go by! We got our builder to do the SS instead of tiles ($841). If it was a rectangular bit going just under the rangehood, next time I'd probably order a piece of SS cut to size, buy the right sort of adhesive and do it myself., but with bending and cutting out a hole for the powerpoint, hmm no thanks, it could be an expensive mistake if you made one!
