Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jun 12, 2009 6:14 pm Hello I ilive in a strata unit and was thinking about renovating my kitchen. My sink is next to the window and the gas stove is opposite to the sink ie if u think of a square , my sink is on one side and the gas is on the other side.I want a ducted rangehood as the unit is a small one and the kitchen odours can be pungent sometimes in the winters. 1. Can I duct the rangehood above the cupboards, there is about a foot of space above them.? 2. Or is it cheaper to shift the gas and stove onto the window side and duct the rangehood directly from the window? I will attach a foto as this time the site is not allowing me to do so. Cheers Mat Re: Any ideas how to duct this one? 2Jun 12, 2009 11:44 pm You can't put the cook top under the window if that is what you mean, but if you can get it against the external wall it will work out a lot better for you both financially and functionally. It is not a problem running duct above the wall units...300mm is more than enough - of course, as frequently discussed here, there is a marked decrease in the efficacy of the extraction if you use a series of 90 degree bends and/or curves to run the duct all the way around to the external wall/window. But definitely go for it if you can, venting of cooking vapours is a big plus in any good kitchen design.
