In our current rental our kitchen is in a separate room, we dont have a door to it, but with indoor cats I wish we did have a door. However... the house we're building, the kitchen is smack bang in the centre of the house and it's completely open. Will just have to yell at the cats if they jump on the bench until they learn Re: Kitchen door or no kitchen door? 3Jun 07, 2009 9:38 pm Yes kitchen has its own room. Our house is not opened planned, and the only real benefit to a kitchen door I guess is that it adds character to the kitchen...as more and more these days people are going for opened plan. The other benefit is that if guests show up unexpected and the kitchen is not tidy I can just shut the door and they would be none the wiser Re: Kitchen door or no kitchen door? 4Jun 07, 2009 9:44 pm Another advantage of a door I guess is to control heating/cooling zones in the house. We have a cold draft that comes through the back of our house, through where the kitchen is. It would be nice in winter to close that off. Re: Kitchen door or no kitchen door? 5Jun 07, 2009 9:47 pm I think if it's a separate room then you need to keep the door. One benefit is when someone burns something in the kitchen, and when I say "someone" I mean my DH, then I can shut kitchen door and avoid the smoke alarms going off! Also, another good thing is you can go in there and shut the door, thereby giving you some private space, but with no door, that's not an option. Annie A thankful person is a happy person. Also you can use the loud kitchen stuff and block some noise from the rest of the house. Thinking of my mum using the beaters whilst dad watches the footy, and using the dishwasher etc... buzz Re: Kitchen door or no kitchen door? 7Jun 07, 2009 10:22 pm oooh.. also you could put a roast on without having to fend off the kiddies form the oven, just close the door!! Brilliant. At the moment, if I cook in the oven, I have to put three sides of a playpen as a gaurd around the oven ... with chairs to hold it in place to stop baby from burning himself. Wish I had a kitchen door buzz That's a bit of a vague question. Either cupboard size is fine. With no real advantage or disadvantage to either, apart from the fact that the 900 cabinet fits more into… 1 368 Black on light wood does look good.
