Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jun 07, 2009 10:30 am Hey Guys, Just wondering if anyone knows how much space is recommended to allow for around a fridge to prevent over heating, proper cooling etc? I have 1000mm wide spot and want to buy a French door fridge which is 910mm wide. We recently had this discussion its nice to have a bit more than recommended but you don't want a gaping hole . It is a bit different if fridge space is near a wall on one side because you need more space to open the door wider. Re: Fridge space allowance? 3Jun 07, 2009 12:45 pm Yeah it seems each fridge is different For example some of the single door ones want 30mm per side for air gap while some side by sides require only 5mm. I noticed some fridges like the Bosch side by sides had venting in the lower front of the fridge which I assume is like the commerical style built in fridges to eliminate the requirement for rear/side venting? Re: Fridge space allowance? 4Jun 07, 2009 8:32 pm Our fridge space is 1050mm wide, our fridge is only 900mm (double door Samsung) wide but we have a wall on one side so we needed a bit more space to get one of the doors open wider. Haywgl how much breathing space do you have around the fridge? We also have a wall on one side (image below) - just wondering if 1000mm will be enough for our 'proposed' 9100mm fridge with water/ice dispenser. I fell into the trap of not considering it was timber measurements so now we are not sure if it will fit and may need to take the skirtings off to get it in there. Check with your manufacturer as it always looks better if it's a tighter fit. No point having a huge gape either side if you only need a few cms. I found the info on the manufacturers website. I had a similar issue with my fridge not too long ago. It wasn't the same model, but the symptoms were pretty much the same: the compressor would start and then stop… 3 7553 You can really use anything you want the main consideration would be how it looks once painted/finished - or the look you want.
