Browse Forums Kitchen Corner Re: How is YOUR rangehood ducted??? 21Jun 23, 2009 11:49 am This is our rangehood. We're going to duct it to the outside, but I was a bit concerned about the walls/roof getting marked by any grease that gets into it. Or does that not happen if you clean your filters regularly? The other option, Option 2, is to put it in the wall out above the dining room. But there is a lot of junk in the roof on this side. I would have thought it reasonable that a rangehood of that fashion is ducted to the outside, I suppose I assumed it would be. For me it's not a huge issue as I don't have a tendency to use the rangehood anyway, even though I probably should! Re: How is YOUR rangehood ducted??? 23Jun 24, 2009 7:24 am I was told by a kitchen coy that it is illegal now to duct into the roof cavity (re: fat extracted etc building up in cavity ---> fire hazzard) and you must duct to outside atmosphere or have a reticulated type. We are not having any o/head cupboards & most rangehoods don't appeal to me, so not sure what I'll end up with. Life's too short too drink bad wine Re: How is YOUR rangehood ducted??? 26Jun 24, 2009 6:59 pm re: hammerhead... Based on the size of the lights compared to the size of the vents, I would think it would only be suitable for one cooktop element?! We have a 600mm wide cooktop with 900mm wide rangehood, and it still has steam going past the sides of it occasionally on middle fan speed - only had it for a few days so haven't had much chance to use it yet... Re: How is YOUR rangehood ducted??? 27Jul 10, 2009 3:41 pm Actually I think our rangehood is ducted to the outside, well I can see one of those chimney like things on the roof in the spot where you would expect it to be. I'm happy about that! Did you want a photo of the new chimney on top of the roof for the rangehood? Will provide another photo once the cornice gets it's 2nd or 3rd coat... Re: How is YOUR rangehood ducted??? 29Sep 06, 2009 3:44 pm After receiving our new 900mm glass canopy the other day Ive gone to install it with the intention of recirculating the air out the vents into the kitchen but realised that looks crap. Im not thinking of extracting to atmosphere but wondering how hard this is to do if your external wall is brick? Anyone else had this problem? Re: How is YOUR rangehood ducted??? 30Dec 20, 2009 8:43 am Hi Installation Inspector, that rangehood duct is how my rangehood duct should look like if I can get the housing made. Could you tell me if the housing has gone through the ceiling or just sits flush with it? Re: How is YOUR rangehood ducted??? 31Dec 22, 2009 10:00 am Does anyone know if it is required that vents/exhausts from rangehoods need to go outside not into the roof cavity? I'm guessing it's not required if builders offer an upgrade to this. I don't know whether to have the rangehood go outside instead of roof cavity. I thought I read somewhere that it is a legal requirement specified in AS1668 covering mechanical ventilation and requires “all exhaust air shall be discharged to the atmosphere". What about exhaust fans int he bathroom/ensuite? Do they just go into the roof? Life is; then you tell yourself a story. Re: How is YOUR rangehood ducted??? 32Dec 22, 2009 10:20 am Oze, I think the legalities vary from state to state - I am almost certain it is now a legal requirment to duct to outside in SA - in our new house the flue goes thru the ceiling and comes out the roof, we have 9ft ceilings with a bulkhead above the kitchen cupboards so you dont see the piping; in our old house which had a kitchen renovation in 2000, the flue goes to the outside of the wall - if your stove is against an outside wall they can do it that way, otherwise, as Pebbles mentioned, you will see the little chimney thing poking thru the roof. We did not pay any extra for this, nor were we given a choice about whether we did it.
